in my 86 i have backup light issues too. they don't work unless i have pressure on the shifter. all i do when i need my backups is push forward on the shifter and they work. i need to get in there and clean the conntacts and stuff but that works for now. so maybe give that a shot. alex

Lookin 4 pics of 8" SKYJACKER rock ready kit on an MJ
GirsMJ86 replied to Ken's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok first off i hope you know that the rear leafs on an MJ are longer then that of an XJ. so your rear end will sit lower then your front unless you order and MJ rear lift kit to match. but the front will match right up. i just looked at the skyjacker website and the 8" lift is for the XJs that have coil springs both front and rear from the way it looks. so that right there will also screw up your plans a tad. -
MJ vs 5.9L GC as a DD(kinda long)
GirsMJ86 replied to Jason H. Rea's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
sry not a big "newer" jeep buff. but brando pretty much stated most of the problems with them. and like he said they are not cheap to fix and yes that 91+ gas would be nuts to put in them. and the MJs do get pretty good gas milage also. and if the one you are lookin at is a long bed then it has a pretty good size tank. not sure what the ZJ had. and not only can you run the cheaper 87 gas but also the 85 ethanol gas also if you can find a place that sells it. and if you are lookin at the 5.9 for power youll be surprised with that 4.0 in a 2wd MJ. in my 88 i could smoke the tires and mine was an auto. so just imagine with a manual. -

GirsMJ86 replied to Jason H. Rea's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
but you never can tell you might get lucky and not have those problems. not tryin to scare you out of the ZJ either just tellin ya what i know from first hand. also its not too hard to make that MJ an auto either if you really are worried about that. -
MJ vs 5.9L GC as a DD(kinda long)
GirsMJ86 replied to Jason H. Rea's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well i am on my 2nd MJ and thats only because i needed a 4x4 since I'm in ohio and my first was a 2wd even if i did get stuck goin from a 4.0 to a 2.8L. but don't get me wrong the 2wd got around even in the snow. one winter it got barried with snow and it pulled right out. and i will warn you the MJs are very addictive. since yours will have the 4.0L there will be hardly any problems there. and with the miles it has i wouldnt worry becuz i have seen 4.0s with 300k miles still runnin strong. upgrades are cheaper and parts are pretty easy to find unless you are looking for body panels or something those seem hard to find round here. the MJs are very easy to work on also. the 5.9s are nice but after workin for jeep ill warn you there are quite a few problems i have seen with em. not so much the engine as the vehicles themselfs. big cost fixes too. you didnt say the year for the ZJ so i can't tell you the problems you might run into. post the year of it and i can let you know some of the more costly ones. -
Longbed fuel tank in a shortbed?
GirsMJ86 replied to Bounty Hunter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
did you ever figure out if this would work? I'm looking into doin it too if i get me hands on a shortbed. -
when i first learned of the comanches and started to hunt for one instead of a j-truck i couldnt find any. then once i got my 88 i started to see em all around. and now that i have my 86 i see them all the time. most of em are in bad shape though. the only good lookin parts of most of the ones i see is the brush gaurd or rollbars they have that id like to get my hands on. and pete u can sense these things too? lol

GirsMJ86 replied to PRLJEEP's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
check ur length and they should fit if you get the right length if not there are mj kits out there. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Prod ... se/s-10101 here are some mj ones and there are others out there too. just watch ur flex/length ratio. -
thx ill look into them.
-
well i would put the 4.11 axles i was going to put under my 86. d30 and d44 with 4.11s. then a lift and tires.

New to the club, heres the comanche
GirsMJ86 replied to STROKERMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
his link is a pretty good one too. has the build up of it from when he got it til now. plus some good lookin xj stuff too. -
is his 88 (which he has listed in the classified section) better/easier to build up then my 86? is the front drivetrain stronger? + its a manual which is a plus even though id want to swap it for a better one. and it has a 4.0 instead of the 2.8. :D
-
will it bolt up to the 4.0 and do i need one from a 4x4 or will any ol ax15 work. i think i know this but just checkin.

thx ill have to get on it b4 the 88 sells.

can i swap gauge clusters between my 88 and 86? the 86 just has idiot lights, no rpm. the 88 has full gauges. and id like to have an rpm gauge in there. which i need to tear the 86 one out neways because the speedometer is startin to slip so i figured now would be the time to ask and do if i can.

cab swappin/donor vehicle for parts?
GirsMJ86 replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well i guess ill just go to the 3.4L sumday then since swappin the cabs sounds like too much that i don't want to get into right now. maybe if i had more free time. too bad i just can't find sumone to trade me a newer 4.0 4x4 for either the 86 or 88 or heck id might even do both if i wouldnt have to do much to it. :D now then about needin a better front driveshaft, stronger d30 axleshafts and ujoints to go with my lift, 4.10s+ and 33s. whats a good donor vehicle for those parts? -
they have some thing to do with the pressure in the cab when the blower is on. found this out when i had them off while repaintin my truck and noticed that the little rubber guards under them stoppped movin if i opened the doors when the blower was on. true peurpose i couldnt tell you.

d30 4.10 with 33s and other upgrades to lift an mj?
GirsMJ86 replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well my mj is an auto just to throw that in there also. and what about if i just threw on my 3" lift with 31s? would the set up i have work? or do i still need to upgrade ujoints, axleshafts, front driveshaft, and aux trans cooler, and go higher then 4.11s or not? also i will eventually goin to the bigger lift and tires and the 3.4 but those are not in my budget for right now. so what i need to know is where are some good sites to find everything listed above and also a new d44 carrier to fit the 4.11s and up. because i don't have the yards around me to find parts. also what would some good donor vehicles be for those parts?
