So I don't actually have to remove the transmission to tighten the converter? That makes me much happier.
Does anyone have a pic of the bolts i need to tighten?
If it does it on start up i don't think it would be the oxygen sensor as the comp isnt using it yet. i must have misread something in your post as i thought it was happening after the truck warmed up.
Speed stepper motor and iac are the same thing i believe.
Eagle, So I have to remove that cover behind the oil pan (is this the inspection cover)? What does the flex plate look like once i get the cover off? I am still very new to any type of investigative wrenching.
What do you mean by the front pump in the tranny? Can I get to it by dropping the pan?
I ave heard of the torque converter bolts coming loose on these trannys. I need to drop the tranny to tighten them right?
If it runs fine until hot you may also want to test your oxygen sensor. The engine runs on a preset until it reaches a certain temp and then starts getting info from the oxygen sensor.
I will try to explain the best I can. THe other day I started getting a noise like either a strong vibration or a grinding. At first it only did it in D-3-21; Now it does it in every gear except reverse. it only does it while stopped. As soon as i give it gas it stops. You can hear the noise the loudest in the cab. No noise at all under the hood. It seems to be coming from near the tranny/transfer case. Transfer case fluid was low so i filled it.
I know there was one thread where one person got it done and another person scheduled the appointment then was called back and told the truck was to old.
In another thread i read it said to make sure to block/cover the oil galleys before cleaning to prevent any gunk from falling down them and that if the head is really dirty to flush the galleys with oil.
There was a good post a while back where someone drew 3 different diagrams. I can't find the post. Does anybody have the link to that post?
EDIT: foget it I found it. It is about switching to an XJ prop valve
The pintle in the IAC may be sticking. Did you clean the IAC when you cleaned the throttle body?
Did you take the throttle body off to clean it?
How long after cleaning TB did the problem start ?
Are the oil galleys the same holes the rods go in?
I have never had a valve cover off before and am putting a new gasket on tomorrow and will be doing any cleaning that is necessary.
