I wonder how that Cummins 3.3 would compare to the VW 1.9 diesel people have been mentioning lately. The guy's claiming 34 mpg.

"We [u.S. Border Patrol] want to let the American public know that this isn't the first smuggling attempt we've stopped, and that we are out here 24/7 making sure the American border is secure," Zarate said." Wait, you got the jeep stuck up there? Course it's not the first attempt you stopped. cause ya didn't stop it! :brows:

Looks like it's just a plate bolted on top. Just bolt it onto the bottom instead.

80's pop or not, it's been stuck in my head for the last week... -
yeah, it's a little odd the way it's labelled. The top slider is direction and the bottom slider is temperature. I don't like hot air blowing at my face, so having it labelled heat sort of makes sense to me, but yes, it's misleading. My understanding is that one of the a/c settings blows both up and down, but I don't know what would happen if you run the a/c with heat... At least that's the way it works in my Dad's 85 Chevy which has the same hvac controls as my 91 MJ. We used that setting to pump heat between the front seats to the back of the van because otherwise it got pretty darn cold back there...

Brands/sizes For Aggressive, Skinny Snow Tires
gogmorgo replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, technically, yes, they're m+s, so that means they're supposedly alright in snow. They don't have the snow-peak rating (see below) so they're not going to be the worlds best on snow/ice, but the 225's are snow-peak rated. They had some in the shop when I went in, and apart from the size, they looked exactly the same, so :dunno: Snow-peak rating: see the red snowflake on a mountain? It means the tire's been compared to some standard in performance. m+s is just big tread block with gaps between. After driving around in the inch and a bit of snow we got this afternoon, I'd say they're pretty darned good. Better than the old tires were in the wet. It's not perfect traction, like I still needed to be a little careful with the throttle, but even in 2wd I could still be the fastest away from a light. (industry standard test that, lol.) -

From a popular mechanics article I read a while back, nitrogen doesn't move through rubber quite so easily as oxygen does, so tires are less likely to lose pressure, also nitrogen doesn't change volume quite as much as regular air with temperature swings, so you get a more stable pressure. There's also much less chance of ending up with water from water vapour in compressed air. I personally didn't think it's worth the extra $50 (air is about 79% nitrogen anyway) but to each his own. Somehow I still wound up with it, but I'm not complaining. -
Yeah, that's the impression I got, "user customizable" thanks. I rerouted it temporarily through the valence where the bumper goes through on the driver's side, and I think I'm going to put the new one there too. Before it was up over the ds headlight, so I'd be closing the hood on it, not a good idea imo. My preference is running it up to the base of the windshield, where it's hidden by the cowling and doesn't knock around when you're driving, but that's not going to work when there's no cowling...

For those of you who are afflicted by the need to use a block heater, where does your cable run? I'm needing to replace mine (I can't get it to come out more than two feet, and extension cords are illegal in my parking lot for some reason) and I'm really not liking the "lets feed it through the serpentine belt" location...
-
Haha, always wondered why they called them map lights... Cause when you've got a good one you don't need a map to find your truck!
-
If it makes you feel any better, I shelled out $2700 for mine... more than I should have imo but I only had about a week to get a legal car on the road, so I was a little hasty about the whole thing. Mine's got 120k miles more than that, and came with zero extra parts (except a handful of fuses) and a mismatched set of well-worn tires. Not having seen that one in person or mine clean (po didn't expect to part with it as soon as he did, heheh) I'm going to say that that one looks a lot nicer.

If you look at my truck's thread, you might be able to spot where one of the previous owners mounted the antenna. It's self-tapped into the middle of the back of the cab, the cable's still there, but the antenna isn't. The cable goes straight down between the bed and cab, and then comes up through a hole under the driver's seat. There's no radio either, but there's still a clip for hanging the handset on the back of the console, so I'm guessing it was sitting between the seats. I might go with a magnetic mounting antenna so you're not putting more holes in the truck than you need to. Plus, you can move it much more easily if you decide after a while you don't like where it is.

What Italian car companies are backed by the gov? Alpha and Ferrari, Lancia, Abarth and Maserati are Fiat, Lambo is VW... All the others I can think of (i.e. Pagani) are too small to really count for anything...

Thanks! Cap and rotor looked brand new, so I didn't worry about them, but there's a set of plugs and wires sitting on top of my pile of textbooks, waiting to go in. The PO had all fluids changed at a jiffy-lube type place a couple weeks before I got it. So all is good there. :)

That's kinda what I was thinking, blazer. Just thought I'd run it through someone else.

Just noticed this today. Badge on my tailgate: Badges on the sides of the cab: Different font, and gold 4's Does that mean anything other than one of the previous owners had a paintbrush or else a screwdriver and liked wandering around junkyards?

New tires, 235/75-15 General Tire Grabber AT2's, a full set of five. No more mismatched tires and sizes for me! So now she sits a little higher, (ike an eighth of an inch... heheh) but I feel much better driving around in this stuff: As she sits now: Note, not clean, just snow-scrubbed and wet.

Brands/sizes For Aggressive, Skinny Snow Tires
gogmorgo replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So this morning I get a call at 6:21AM saying my tires are in so I should come get them installed... needless to say I took my sweet time getting there. But to make a long story short, went from the above to the below. Whether it's the slightly bigger tire that slightly reduces the torque at the wheel, or the warm tires from the shop, or just the fact that these are waaay better tires, I felt much better in the slushy caca on the roads after putting them on. The last tires were bad enough that the fronts would slide sideways when I was parking in the muddy slushy swamp of a parking lot unless I put it 4x4. Now there's no issue. Also, the tracks I left were incredibly well defined, nothing really left in the tread. Seeing them irl the siping looks much better. Also worth noting, I now have green valve caps. Strange, since I expressly told them not to put nitrogen in them because I didn't want to pay for it... but I didn't... so... well... green valve caps ftw? And maybe N2? :dunno: -
:yeah that: Totally badass.

Brands/sizes For Aggressive, Skinny Snow Tires
gogmorgo replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So yesterday when I said there was snow flying, it was just a few small wet flakes until the evening, when they started sticking, but there was only a half inch or so when it stopped. Then I woke up this morning to two more inches and it was like a wall of white in the air... needless to say I've got an appointment tomorrow to get them installed. I looked into studding and siping, but being almost $800 (with tax and balancing) into the $600 I set aside for the tires, I decided to wait and see on the studs and siping, at $20/$30 per tire respectively at that shop . If I feel the need, I likely can pull some money from something else to get it done, but we'll wait and see. I also can likely find another shop to do it cheaper. Don't really have the time or location to sipe them myself, though... Got the world's strangest look from the kid behind the counter when I told him I needed a full set of tires and then corrected him when he put four into the 'puter :shake: -
