  1. Which would be there whether he crawled up to it or hit it at 20mph after going off the road, just saying.
  2. @#$% @#$% @#$% @#$% @#$% no. Why did you have to show that to me? Actually I think I remember that one (or one very similar) coming up for sale a couple years back, but it needed more work than I was willing (or probably able at the time) to get it running. Also I'm really not all that close, at least it's more than an afternoon trip. But I will be in Wpg at the end of the month... You bastard.
  3. This is my exotic:
  4. If you know how to use a brake pedal, that's not what most of us would call bad news.
  5. Sadly this would not be an again. It might just prolong it a little more... I wound up offering $700, and he accepted. I was going to offer 500, but he had started talking about talking his daughters driving it when he first got it and looking all nostalgic so I figured if I wanted out of there with the XJ I should do it quickly.
  6. The floorpans are shot, in that classic spot on the, just outside the frame. Driver's side rocker wasn't awful but the passenger side is crumbling. It runs great, shifts good, brakes are decent. A/C doesn't work but that's not a big surprise. It's reasonably clean inside, didn't smell awful. It's got a bit of a vibration out on the road, but nothing too severe. Turns out he did have papers, he just let the insurance lapse a few years ago. He's an older British guy, started telling me stories about his daughter's band, and taking the Jeep to gigs. Seemed like he didn't really want to sell it. Also, I'm an idiot.
  7. Keep in mind that the XJ/MJ d30 is high-pinion and requires reverse-cut gears. If you're looking for 3.91's, make sure they exist before committing to anything. It's not a factory ratio and not something many people in the aftermarket would be looking for. And frankly what is the benefit? You lose all advantages of running a taller tire by not running them on the front as well, but still have the inconvenience, lower mpg, higher COG, etc. Split the difference, go with 32's front and rear (should fit with no lift) and 4.10's. You'll be happier.
  8. Lol yup.
  9. Well he called me back just now. It's got just over 300,000 km on it. He's had it for 15 years and I guess he's replaced the rockers once but they're rusting out again, as are the floor pans, and maybe some other stuff. Apparently everything else is good, in and out. But he's a farmer, and never registered it, and I'm not positive he's got papers. So of course I'm going to go look at it tomorrow. :D Sigh.
  10. My flexplate cracked almost perfectly around that plate. So I suppose it does something...
  11. This guy's making it too easy for me to avoid buying it. Hasn't returned my calls yet.
  12. No, it's a front-engine rear-drive. Same basic car as the Charger. I think there were AWD versions if you want to hang onto your 4x4 (if you have), but the 2wd trans likely won't bolt up to a tcase. Assuming everything fit (pull out a tape measure) I'd be curious to see the swap happen regardless. I'd expect you'd need custom motor mounts and trans crossmember, and probably some driveshaft fudgery as well. Basic fab work that shouldn't be too much trouble for someone with average skill. I expect you'll be looking at decent performance and vastly improved MPG.
  13. Now you guys see my dilemma... Y'all are oh so helpful.
  14. Pros: '92 2-door 4.0 ax15 4x4 Guy wants $900. Would be a great donor for an ax-15 swap in the MJ, eventually. Swap the MJ's aw4 back into this, and sell it (still have the driveshafts from my aw4 parts XJ, so that's a no brainer. Would be good for practicing rust repair and/or paint and/or body work. Cons: Has "the usual rust" Seller didn't list mileage It's 130 miles away from me (but only 60 from my parents') I really don't need a third project vehicle. My money is better allocated to other things right now My landlords/roommates don't much care for me accumulating more vehicles here... It's one of those situations where I probably shouldn't buy it but really want to. Don't know when another might come up for an ax-15 donor. I think I'll wait till tomorrow afternoon before calling the guy. The trouble is if I go see it and there's nothing majorly wrong with the drivetrain I can pretty well guarantee it's coming home with me.
  15. It will fit. It's an H4 harness, and the MJ doesn't have H4 bulbs, which is why it says it won't fit. But the H4 bulbs use the same socket as the MJ's sealed beams, so it's all good.
  16. Probably the easiest way to search is by looking for an h4 relay harness. You can also make your own. http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm
  17. Your snow fields have an odd texture to them :D Kinda hard to tell in the tiny pics on my phone, but is that "bull bar" just the hoop part or is it the whole bumper? Either way it looks good, but now you need to get some lights up on that roof bar to match.
  18. http://www.oemautopartsandaccessories.com/shipping/ Interesting info found on their shipping page. Summing it up: Items are either "in stock", "standard order", or "special order". Respectively that means "it's sitting in the warehouse", "we can order it from some other warehouse but it'll take a bit longer", or for that other 5% of parts "we'll bust our asses trying to track it down, then if we can find it, we'll tell you how much and how long". I suspect you'd find most if not all MJ-specific parts fall in that last category.
  19. Missed that one. My bad.
  20. Melted headlight switch connectors are a common issue. Mine set itself on fire. The wires and switch are spec'ed for the bare minimum of the headlight load, and as the wiring ages, the load increases. Fire bad. Look up a headlight harness upgrade. It's unlikely, but the melted connector could be causing the short as well.
  21. If it's an automatic, my money's on the neutral safety switch. Could likely do with a good cleaning. http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neutral-safety-switch-nss/
  22. Was the headlight switch's connector melted at all?
  23. If you're looking used, 235/75/15 is one of the most common tire sizes, and can likely be picked up cheap, and they will fit whichever rims you have.
  24. Well I guess that settles it then, I'll hold off on the shocks. But I'm still curious as to whether or not it would be wise to run 15" compressed length shocks on an otherwise stock setup without figuring out bumpstops.
  25. I'll admit I don't know how old they were on the truck. Had probably 30% tread left. But the truck I was driving at work early this winter had them too, and it was the same story. Shouldn't need 4x4 just running around on packed snow. Admittedly they were a bit better than the Wrangler SRA highway no-seasons on the new truck I got in Februrary... I'm also tentative about the KO2, as we've been putting them on all the trucks at work when the factory tires go bad, and they were constantly coming back in for patches with small rocks pushed through them between the . I work for a national park and probably 75% of the miles our trucks see are on gravel, so that may just be par for the course. It may also have just been an earlier run of the KO2's, as the newer ones don't have as much trouble. But so far it's the only severe-snow rated tire I've found in a 32 or 33 x 10.5 x15.
