  1. I agree Pete. However, the truck is 70 miles from my garage & tools. It's also too cold outside right now to tackle this job. I'm not happy about having to pay for this repair, but my hands are tied on this one.
  2. ..and now for the BIG question. If it's the slave and the tranmission has to taken apart, how much do you think the bill will be for? I'm also going to have them replace the clutch while he is in there.
  3. This failure was not totally unexpected. About 3 weeks ago while topping-off fluids before my 850 mile round-trip visit to central PA, I noticed that the clutch mater cylinder fluid level was just above the MIN line. I added enough DOT 3 brake fluid to come right-up to the MAX line. Over the next few days, I noticed that the fluid was leaking out of somewhere onto the ground. This only lasted a few days until the fluid level went back to just above the MIN line. Unfortunately, I did not get under the truck and investigate where the fluid was leaking from. The part of the clutch master cylinder that comes through the fire wall (above the fuse box) was wet but not leaking or dripping with any frequency. There was no change in clutch pedal feel or effort in shifting the transmission prior to the failure. Unfortunately, the truck is now sitting in my uncle’s driveway 70 miles away and I cannot easily diagnose or attempt to fix it now. I have a tow truck coming on Monday. My uncle has used this repair shop many times before. I will let them know to check for a problem with the clutch master cylinder or connecting hose before they just rip into the transmission to access the slave.
  4. What are the process steps to determine if my problem is the master, slave, bad hose, or something else?
  5. Blatz, can you school me on this? I always thought the Master Cylinder was the chamber that held the brake fluid.
  6. As I entered the highway exit ramp, I stepped down on the clutch pedal to drop-down to 4th gear and the pedal went to the floor & I couldn’t shift the transmission. I did manage to get the transmission into 3rd with some effort and limped to my destination. The clutch reservoir was low but not empty. I filled it up and the pedal still went to the floor. There was no puddle under the truck and no fluid on my fuse box. Is this my slave cylinder? And yes it has the Peugeot, so I know it’s internal.
  7. My '89 is bone stock and as far as I can tell has never been wheeled. I have 214K on the Peugot with no problems whatsoever. Reaching for wood as we speak.
  8. Keeping the MJ alive & well here in Walpole, MA-no prison jokes please!
  9. Hey CW, I just saw your post. Very scary stuff! The good news is that now you know what you need to do to prevent it from happening again. Most guys after having bypass surgery feel like "new men”, so I'm sure you'll bounce-back even stronger. Earlier, you mentioned being very active at work. While that's preferable to sitting at a desk; it really isn't a substitute for exercise. You need to get your heart rate up for a sustained amount of time to realize any health benefit. I started running/jogging and paying more attention to what I eat a few years back and I can feel the difference. I now run 2.5 miles every morning-it took me months to get up to this distance, and I actually enjoy it now. We want to have you around, so get healthy!
  10. Jim, where did you get your boster/master? I've been looking for a set-up from a '99-'04 Grand Cherokee with no luck. Just not many of these rigs in JY's yet.
  11. I had a rip in the door seal on the drivers side a while back and cold winter air would rush in. I picked-up a good seal from a 4-door early 90's XJ at the JY for $20. Although the seal is now tight, the seal must be larger b/c I really need to slam the door to close it-very annoying at times.
  12. Garry, that is an odd reply, but it begs the question-is your name on the title? I have a hard time believing that Chrysler has access to the registry of motor vehicle records in all 50 states. Wait til Fiat gets in there and corrects this!
  13. Just because Lasorda denies it doesn't mean their not talking. Cerebus has been looking to merge/sell/bail on Chrysler for months now.
  14. The latest rumor has Jeep going back to Renault. Does that mean I can finally get a new interior light from the factory soon?
  15. Yeah, I did a Google image search and saw them. Do I need a particular size for this application?
  16. Well, that qualifies as a special tool-now what the heck is a spanner wrench? Can it be found at an Ace Hardware or Home Depot? :ack:
  17. I thought the crank handle just didn’t have a good enough bite on the regulator stud because it just spun around. When I got home, I stripped off the interior panel and had to “finesse” the regulator to turn with a pair of vise grip pliers. I can see two rivets that hold the regulator to the door. Are there any special tools or tricks to removing the regulator inside the door? Are regulators repairable? Last question-does anyone know up to what year 4-door XJ they are interchangeable with?
  18. Great article-stupid seller. It would've been nice if the article gave the 0-60 time and cost. ...and where is this truck now!!!
  19. Good eye on that! It's yours if I get it.
  20. Yeah, it doesn't list the transmission in the ad. If this baby has 4.10's, I'll drive the 5 hours to pick her up.
  21. I know that nothing is a given from the factory, but what gears should this one have? http://burlington.craigslist.org/cto/987458923.html
  22. Here's another write-up. I haven't done this yet, but it's on the short list for the spring. http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/ ... index.html
  23. I have an '89, so I don't think its equipd for ABS. I don't have any power at the float connection because the wire doesn't make it all the way back to the gauge cluster. The reservoir that I picked-up looks identical to the stock MJ except for the extra motor for the rear window washer on the bottom and the electrical conection for the float on the top.
  24. Ok, this might be the most unnecessary upgrade ever but what is involved in getting the Low Washer light to function in the MJ? I found a windshield washer reservoir with the low fluid meter from a 1990 Cherokee in the JY. I attached the brown 2-wire plug to the top-mounted low fluid meter in the reservoir and installed the indicator bulb in the dash display with no success. Looking a little deeper I noticed that the 16-pin connecter plug that attaches to the back of the gauge cluster does not have the wire installed (in pin 15) for the Low Washer indicator. What is the best way to get this to work?
  25. Thanks Eagle, I will try to stop by.
