  1. I offered to buy the transmission from the PO and he wanted $350 for it. Don't tell me you bought the whole truck for that price!
  2. I found a Dana 30 front axle with 4.10 gears. Would this bolt up in my MJ? If so, would it be best to use my brakes? Is there anything else I should be concerned with? Here is the CL ad: http://southcoast.craigslist.org/pts/1050702688.html One other question, would running 4.10 gears place additional stress on the 20 year old Peugeot BA-10? My stock gearing is 3.07.
  3. It would be interesting to know how many MJ's are still registered. I can go months here in the New England area between sightings.
  4. The cops in my neighborhood would be idling for a long time waiting for another MJ to drive by. :dunno:
  5. ...and this is currently for sale in China now: These guys have a serious Jeep thing going. Can I list my MJ on Beijing Craigslist for 40 million yen?
  6. This is not a production vehicle. It's based on the last generation Liberty and does not have any name or logo on the bonnet, neither a Jeep nor a BAW nor a Beijing-Jeep's. Considering that the Chinese/American joint venture is now history that makes this Liberty-style pickup truck the one and only in the world. This truck was presented as a gift to the Chinese Military Museum in Beijing in January 2008.
  7. It's got those nice Datsun era hooks around the bed too!
  8. Those crazy Jeep guys in China are at it again. This story on was posted on the Auto website, Jalopnik.
  9. It's been a while since I changed mine. I have a very basic selection of wrenches, so it couldn't have been too difficult. Go small with a 1/4 drive or try going tall with extensions. As far as separating the cover, Pete is right-go slow. I used a small pry bar and it came right off.
  10. I had a total of 15 bolts holding down my I6 valve cover.
  11. There is no way the booth official had enough time to look at all available angeles to determine that was a fumble as quickly as they did. It should have been reviewed. I was hoping for a hail mary pass into the end-zone. With Larry Fitzgerald's hands and jumping ability, it would have been interesting. ...and remember, if a reciever got bumped before the ball arrives it would have been pass interference with the ball placed at the 1-yard line and Arizona would have been able to run one untimed play to win the Super Bowl. Now, that would have been an exciting finish.
  12. You know, I never looked at it closely. I'll count the splines on the 242 t-case tonight. If it's actually a 23-spline, then it should work with the AX15-right?
  13. Good question! I bought a 242 from Tim (Twisty) because I wanted the functionality of full-time 4WD for the typical snow-covered roads here in the northeast. However, I know this won't work with the AX15 b/c it's a 21-spline. So, yes, I'll need a new TC too. I'm not planning on doing this tranny swap now, but I might be able to get this AX15 real cheap. I'll keep it at the ready for the inevitable Peugeot failure.
  14. Thanks Pete. Will my rear drive shaft work with the AX15?
  15. How easily would an AX15 transmission from a 1998 XJ swap with my Peugeot? 1. Does engine need to be removed to do this swap? 2. Does the pilot shaft (on this AX15) need to be modified? 3. How is the slave cylinder handled? The Peugeot is internal. If this year AX15 is too difficult (to convert) is there a better year/transmission to use?
  16. Tip of the hat to the Steelers. That final drive was great! Enjoy your offseason because a healthy Tom Brady will be waiting for you in '09.
  17. The CC in my area is only offering 30% off of full retail right now. That's a good price, but not great...yet. With that said, I feel terrible for those who are being let go. Our economy is so bad right now.
  18. I'm pulling for her Rick! Be strong.
  19. They ended-up not resurfacing the flywheel at my request, not replacing the clutch master cylinder b/c they said it was fine, and installed the SACHS clutch kit (includes the slave), and a new clutch for $900. I drove it home through that storm yesterday afternoon and to work today with no issues.
  20. No, I haven't shopped around. I was at my uncles's house when the clutch failed and he recommended this shop. I have a buddy who works in a shop in central PA . He's going to ask the boss what he would charge for this type job.
  21. There are alternatives-one would require using my wife's car which is a problem b/c our schedules are too different and the other is to take my Mustang out of storage. I really don't want to do that-especially with another storm coming on Wednesday. If the calender read June I could take a month to fix it, but I don't have that luxury. "Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you." -The Stranger (Sam Elliott) from the Big Lebowski
  22. Pete, I'm with you 100%. I don't like spending this type of cash but my hands are tied on this one. :headpop: I called the local Jeep parts guy and the slave cylinder is not stocked in any Massachusetts Jeep dealer-it's a Detroit sourced item only and takes 4 business days to ship. The clutch master cylinder is the same delivery time from Milwaukee. This really sucks! :fs1:
  23. Thanks Jim. I'll look into that.
  24. I just got the call-back from the shop. $309 Clutch Kit (which includes the new slave cylinder) $149 New Clutch Master Cylinder $50 Resurface the flywheel $25 Sales tax on parts $90 Tow charge $525 7 hours labor $1,148 TOTAL
