Glad it worked out for you!!! Sorry the springs didn't net you the lift you expected!! Did you talk to Motion about this as well? I am also running a longer shackle, I think its a Day-star and IIRC its 7.5" eye to eye. fact MJ is about 5.5" eye to eye. So its netting me about an inch of additional lift. Personally, I wouldn't go any longer for the shackle. Since your SOA, I would remove the perches and install a set that was further off the axle. But don't go crazy here either, maybe an inch to an inch and a half max. By raising the perch off the axle tube your giving it more leverage and can lead to wheel hop. Excessive wheel hop can destroy your new springs in short order. CW

DANA-44s are larger in diameter than 35s. Wider U-bolt hardware is required. My 1992 MJ OEM DANA-35 U-bolt plates are universal containing eight holes...four for the smaller-diameter DANA 35 which are in use and four empty holes for the DANA 44 option. The OEM plates are rusted to hell and I would rather go with some heavy aftermarket replacements. V/R  Paul Yup the D44 is a tad bigger at 2 3/4 to the D35's 2 9/16. Motion has the D44's 2 3/4" U-Bolts for sure!! CW

Paul, Just to clarify. the XJ add-A-leaf will in-fact "work" in any 2.5" spring pack. They just will not offer the advertised lift they will in a XJ. For those who do not know, the XJ leaf pack is much flatter than the MJ's. So the AAL for the XJ will not lift as much. I just added a RE 3" XJ AAL to my Rusty's pack and got about an inch of lift. I did it for the increased spring rate the AAL afford, not for the amount of lift. Good job on going with Motion. We gotta support those who support us!!  CW

Its not likely any of us will ID your noise from a picture. Good try though... ;) :D I do see a Valve cover leak and your sway bar bushings are near shot as well. Neither is likely to be your noise... CW

J-Truck or Wagoneer Springs
CWLONGSHOT replied to CMMagnussen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There are many many variables when you go down this road. Some not so bad others very harsh. One of the biggest issues is OAL, the MJ pack is 52 or so inches, not many are this long. If you find one from a full size it will likely be so stiff in the much lighter MJ it will jar your teeth loose first 6" pot hole you hit. If you must experiment, I would get those leafs and add a couple of them to your pack and see what you get. I know Pete has experimented this way with exploder packs and got a couple inches of lift. what do you mean Didn't you read the 3-4 page my post called another Rusty's rant??? http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11788 The perch's shown as well as how to make the centering pin work is completely outlined there. :brows: CW

steering hitting disco's
CWLONGSHOT replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry to have to say but, @ 6" of lift, you at max for that factory setup, whether it be XJ,ZJ or stock MJ. Just look at the joint on the pass side. Its all but maxed out for droop now. The relocation brackets will eliminate the contact you are finding but will do nothing for the bad angles from your lift. Time for an upgrade. :brows: :brows: I recomend the JCR 1 ton set up, but there is a couple others out that are all but identical that will also work fine!! Image Not Found CW -
Front rotor removal question
CWLONGSHOT replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They would at the very least need to be backed out some to give the hub room to move... -

Front rotor removal question
CWLONGSHOT replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, you COULD do it without removing the rotor.... Remove the three bolts that hold the hub on from the rear. Remove the cotter pin and axle nut. Pull the hub off with the rotor attached. But I gotta say, if the rotor is rust welded, that hub ain't coming off none too easy either... Good luck man!!! CW -
Here is a little quote for you, its very apropos. "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten". Take my recent leaf spring problem. I paid $279 + shipping for that set of Rusty's springs because I didn't listen to members on here like DirtyComanche. I did check out what he told me, he recomended I get Alcans locally. I didn't want to spent $600 for Alcan springs I could get for half that. Well guess what... I just spent $450 MORE for what I should have bought the first time. A little addition and surprise, surprise, I now have spent $729 + for what I could have first gotten locally for $600. The $279 initial cost ain't such a good deal now was it.....     CW

Front rotor removal question
CWLONGSHOT replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Its likely just rust welded to the hub. Later models had a little "Chinese nut" attached to hold the rotor on during assembly in the factory. Check the studs and be sure there is nothing theer holding the rotor on. I don't remember for sure, if the MJ also had this. Worse case you could get a three jawed puller and get them off. CW -
I like the MOPAR factory perches. They are CHEAP and very well made. Think mine where 12 or 16 bucks for the set. Easily modified for the smaller D35 tubes. CW

I like the ZJ sway bar!! My neighbor has a V8 ZJ.. maybe I'll have a new bar too!! :brows: I have wanted to "scoot" it about 1/2-3/4" forward for some time. I could do both at once!! Did it make a big difference driving? I will be waiting for your write up!! GREAT idea!!! I may have to follow your lead..... CW

Yes he did!! Sorry I missed you man!!! Reson46, Sorry no but there was nothing to see but a pile of scrap spring steel!!! Glad to have RUSTY'S CRAP out of and off my Jeep!!!!!!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! don't BUY RUSTY's!! We should start up a fund, kinda like a AAA. When one of us has a hankering to save some dough up front and buy Rusty's, we dip into the fund. Trek out to them and go to the bar and drink beer until we talk them out of it!!! What do you think... CW

Another RUSTYS rant.....
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nope your not missing anything. Thats what I have now, the Motion springs where a tad lower than I expected so to level everything out, I removed the ACOS's and just put in isolators. (NO LIFT) The front has new BDS 4.5" springs to match the 4.5" lifted MOTION OFFROAD springs out back!! Gives it what I like to see for a front to back rake. I like the rear a bit higher on a pickup. CW -
That is one scary looking XJ... This is a show only deal AFAIK, Its DS angles are WAY WACKED. ESP the front!!!! Verrrry scary!!! I remember talking to the guy a couple years back, he had only just finished the lift the day before and didn't even have the drive shafts in it. But its nice enough LOOKING. :D Johnny, I didn't see that one, Jackal mentioned it but I missed it. I saw the very clean camo camper top MJ at the front. The Red one in the pic, a Green long bed half way down on the extreme right, Then just a bit further was a blue/blk short bed and mine makes five. I was there early and had a spot right up front with both my rigs. The TJ was to the right as you come in second row. Next to the security cabin. Image Not Found The MJ was all the way to the fence on the left. Image Not Found 89, That's me pop!! :brows: He was enjoying himself, lounging with the dag... Thats the way Doc Thunder found him!! Here he is with my "boy" Riley. Image Not Found CW

Another RUSTYS rant.....
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't read this before my last post. Sorry. OK here is the skinny: This is a swapped in XJ D44. I used factory MOPAR perches. So yes factory, but no not Jeep or Comanche. The pic you show is NOT your leaf or centering pin, its Rusty's. I was showing it to show the sizes only. Kind of eluding that it may have had a hand in the demise of the last pack. Here is your centering pin, my perch and the centering pin I made up to properly fit. The pins that came on your springs had a 1/2" dia head, shown in blue. As for the dimensions of the leafs, I cannot say for sure as my factories are gone. The Rusty's where 26 1/8 from center of front bushing to center of center pin. Motion springs where 25" same spots. In reading the links supplied, the factory was also 26". So I don't know, you tell me. As for how a leaf works, you are correct and I am knowledgeable in suspension articulation. This vehicle had a D35 from the factory and uses that DS now. The shout on the D44 is longer as you likely know. Usually, lifting necessitates a longer shaft. Because of the addition of the 44 I had to shorten mine a bit. Many times its workable but with the D44 it just wasn't. As you say, the axle in full droop sees the DS in its shortest position. Apparently there was less than 1" of clearance as it was and the 25" length of your springs ate it up to the point that they would not fit. I agree the factory location is would be best. I just moved the axle back 1.5". So now its sitting less than 1/2" reward from factory, its not going to cause any problems. Image Not Found Yes I did have a leaning issue before the install, you are correct. But the issue was at the front, not rear. At that point the front ACOS was still installed and the truck was level in the front. I pointed out in my previous post, that half of the unevenness was accountable to the one side bushing being tightened with the truck in the air. I lessened all bushing bolts, joined aggressively and drove down the coldusac a couple times to allow for settling. Moved to a flat level spot and tightened everything up and measured, the DS is more than a full inch lower than the pass side. Thanks for the response, yes I will drive it a bit and see how everything pans out. As for the rust causing the issue, its not. (At least as far as is visible) The rust is on the on the too high side anyhow. I jacked the vehicles, jounced all the time watching the cancer and nothing moved. Looks like sand and salt was allowed in thru the front spring mount and sat there rusting thru. The sides are thinner then the bottom, so that's why you see it there first. I'll clean it all up and clad it with some HD angle iron. :brows: :brows: CW
