  1. The pitman arm has a key to be sure its centered... is yours installed in the center of its travel? Also the inverted Y of the factory linkage is a PIA to align @ home. Adjust the wheel and you have just changed the tow..re adjust the tow and the wheel isn't rite. Plus its weak and prone to danage. time to UPGRADE!! CW
  2. SURVIVOR ..... Maine Style Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Maine is planning to do its own, titled 'Survivor -Maine Style.' The contestants will start in Bangor , travel up to Millinocket and . Then they will head southwest to Greenville , then over to Rangely. From there they will proceed south to Portland and Bath . The final leg will be back to Bangor again--making a loop around the state ! Each will be driving a pink Volvo with Massachusetts license plates and a HUGE bumper sticker that reads: I'm ghey. I'm a vegetarian. Beer is harmful to your health. Republicans suck. Obama is God. Deer hunting is murder, and I'm here to confiscate your guns.' The first one that makes it back to Bangor alive wins.
  3. Considering it's a 4 wheel drive axle that doesn't have a spindle, that's a stretch ... Okay, Eagle.........I only went by the FSM labeling and narratives on the D30 front axle, which refers to the bearings of the D44 and D30 axles as spindle bearings, or wheel bearings or simply inner and outer bearings. It also refers to the outer yoke on the axle U-joint as the "spindle yoke." So shoot me. But actually, I was looking at it wrong (backwards). On second view, I see that the video is shot looking across the hub, toward the differential. So Eagle, considering the amount of play in the intermediate axle in the axle tube, does smithe1811 need just a U-joint as your remark has led him to believe? It doesn't seem right that the axle would move in the tube like that, and the only thing that I think of that centers the axle in the tube is the right side axle shaft pilot bushing. It seems even possible that he's broken the intermediate shaft on the right side. Now, do you want to just correct me, or would you like to say something that would be helpful to smithe1811? Easy now fella... ;) Eagle is correct in his terminology. Not all of us on here are teens and twenty somethings. Some of us "older" members do our best to educate with correct terminology and common miss-information that surrounds our sport. So you could say he could have worded his response differently. But the fact remains he is correct in the statement. I am certain his what not a snipe at you or smithe1811. Now, spindles are the shaft that the bearings ride on. Common in trailer axles, full floating 4WD axles and 2WD vehicles. The D30 and D44's in MJ,XJ and TJ Ruby's do not have this style of spindles. REGARDLESS of what the FSM says. They use Unitized bearings. Commonly referred to as unit bearings. Sure, inside the sealed unit there IS a spindle of sorts. But as its not a serviceable or repairable part its not something you could or would work on. When its found bad, its replaced as a complete unit. I don't or cannot visualize what your saying in your explanation. But it is certainly possible what I think you are describing. Broken shaft or bad U Joints are not uncommon. This should be something all of us should be familiar with. Its not a difficult project. If nothing else, those joints have lasted 20something years.. .just replace them because you are there. My suggestion is to pull the unit bearing and shaft and see whats happening in there... CW
  4. Carriage bolts are a good option. They are avalible readilly in longer legnths and bend easilly with a bit of heat. Personally, I had a bunch of threaded drill rod, so I used that. CW
  5. That's is a very good point and something all buyers of EBAY need to be aware of. its something I have a major problem with. IF its available as a buy it now and you do how can anyone justify NOT having it in stock?!?!? I have backed out of a couple auctions because the item was not available. This was also followed with a official complaint against that seller to EBay. My question to them is always the same is, how on earth can you sell something you do not have? the answer is you cannot, I want and will get my money back! SO, read before you buy!!! CW

  8. Eagle, First and foremost, GLAD YOUR OK!!! ;) :wavey: I had a similar issue with the linkage on my 88XJ. It sat for a month or so in the worst of the winter this past year. Pop started it up to move it out of its snow sheath and the throttle stuck!! Smoking both rear tires as soon as it hit the pavement!! He threw it in neutral and popped the hood. It was the bell crank pivot on the side of the intake. Just as you describe. Was 'stiff' for a couple days but daily lubrication proved the cure. Good to know the 20+ YO track lock is still working!!! :clapping: Don, It could probably we retrofitted in a manual tranny. But in a auto there is some other linkages present... The throttle cable exits the firewall and makes a 90degree turn down and is held at the side of the intake and attaches to the bell crank. Then a 3/4 wheel with another cable to the top and another rod join up to the throttle body. In there is another bent rod running up and over the intake down the side of the motor to the tranny. 88sportruck, WELCOME!! Eagle is over in the valley, I'm in Meriden, your in E. Haddam? We have a couple more CT members Green is in Wallingford and another member up in Enfield (IIRC) Together we have the state pretty well represented!! CW

  13. GUNK and many others make spray on engine cleaner. It works quite well with a warm engine and a hose. just don't directly spray the electrical or the distributor. It may take a couple applications and even a good stiff brush and scrapers. Once clean yes change out the valve cover gasket and check the "O" rings on the oil filter adaptor as well. Any other leaks will also become apparent once your cleaner... CW

  23. Thanks for the quick comeback and sorry for the hijack.. I have been feeling a vibe after going over a bump since the leaf install a couple years ago. but recently, (since new tires) its more abrupt. I took the tire off the carrier and it was almost gone! just wondered if you experienced the same as our tires are likely close in weight... CW
