  1. 1) as already written. 8.8's with 4:10 are common, but look for that axle from an exploder. it will get you discs and 31spl axles. if you get one form a ranger or pass car, it will have the less desirable 28spl axles and drum brakes. 2) Get the 8.8 and look for a XJ/MJ with 4:10's and swap it in. (As sdsoon already mentioned) MUCH cheaper then a re-gear. 3) Steering is not an issue with the axle swap. if it works not the axle swap will not effect it in the least. 4) Only if your intending on running bigger then 35" tires i the rocks OR dropping in a V8 and mudding it. 5) As mentioned, the 8.8 is narrower and its pumpkin is offset a bit. NOT an issue esp with the long MJ drive shaft. BUT some have installed it off center. Then running a spacer on one side to "re-center" the axle. Personally I wouldn't do this. I would just center the axle and buy a set of 4" BS rims and forget all the issues. CW
  2. What did you break? Rob L. the bank I LOVE the new avatar!! CW
  3. I once shot a attack trained snapping turtle with a 22 short pistol!! Over fifteen pounds of twisted snapping hissing steel... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: On a side note, I got a beautiful blond coyote yesterday!! Image Not Found Tomorrow is our firearms deer opener, I'm like a Lil kid at Christmas!!! CW
  4. The better looking one.... ;)
  5. Gary is my brother from another mother!!! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: CW
  6. Just to clarify there kiddo... :brows: I do get forwards, I am a proud conservative republican, I do not hate blacks. I hate criminals, liars, bully's, hypocrites and the overall liberal mentality. John Wayne said it best, "Life is hard enough. But its harder when your stupid." But beaver, well, just wanna be crystal clear on this... I LOVE BEAVER!!! ;) CW
  7. Axle wrap is always an issue with a spring over. Its simple physics. With the spring on top of the axle tube, it has more leverage to twist the spring than it did as a spring under. How mush of a problem will only be determined by the springs condition, traction available and the weight of your right foot. :brows:  As Mvusse just mentioned one good method of resisting spring wrap is to use a long spring perch. Another way is to retain that heavy overload leaf from the factory pack. Now the springs condition is unknown as our trucks are 20 + - years old. New springs may be the only option for some very tired packs. SOA setups are just fine if you use your head and follow these simple steps. CW
  8. Where did you get the mountain goat CW? That wasn't even a "hunt"!! there is a guy a couple towns away that runs a farm over run with these. He sells them. He used to shoot them for whom ever bought them and off they went. but as times change he is not considered to be within city limits and has been warned about gunfire on his property. Well, he now has no way to kill his goats and is getting out of the business. A guy on my pistol team, bought this old goat for a pittance and asked my to shoot it with my bow. The farmer was quite resistant. Having never seen one shot with a bow and having no faith as the goats skin is so tough, 22RF bullets usually bounce off!! Well, he was dumb founded when I shot this one. He watched the whole thing and said it was the fastest and cleanest kill on one of these goats he has ever seen, in 50 years..... :clapping: As it turns out, my buddie couldnt even eat this thing as it was tough and seine beyond belief. The farmer got one over on him, guess this was one of his old "stud" rams... I got the horns on the shed facing the noisy neighbor!! LOL She thinks I'm some kind of wacko anyhow, with all the jeeps coming and going..... CW
  9. How about a power inverter? http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/invert ... 5QodaQpkpA You will need to know the power requirements and depending on output may want a bigger alt to fire everything but this looks like what you need to me... CW
  10. It will be drivable for sure, 4:10 would be better but its not nearly as bad as if you had 3;07's!! You may loose 5th in the hills, but that's about the worst of it. CW
  11. Nope, that's a ventilation line. Engine vaccume. Just tape it back together and get one at the junk yard next time you go. All those lines get really brittle and snap like that, be careful moving them in the future... CW
  12. GOOD JOB GARY!!! Ours opens here on Wednesday. I have the day off and will be in my stand before light and won't be out till dark or the brown is down... :brows: Guess your havin' back straps for dinner!!! If I leave now I just might.. no they will be gone fore sure.... :rotf: :D CW
  13. A thru mounted tow point is stronger simply because its in more contact with the bumper its welded to. it gets welded to the front same as yours. Then its welded to the back. Eliminates more of the "shear" of a surface welded mount. I have seen a couple surface mounted points come off and its usually not a pretty site... A pound of sling shot steel at the end of a strap or cable tends to FUBAR anything it comes in contact with... Here is a pic of a mount before its thru welded. CW
  14. GOOD JOB!!! You might need to trim a touch to get them to fit... :shake: CW
  15. Remove the battery cables at the battery and completely clean and replace them. look close at your cables, all three of them, pos, Neg and charge. its likely not a bad idea to replace them with the largest ones available. Sometime back I added a big alt, new battery and made up custom cables for these as well as my winch... MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! Take your time and look close, corrosion will cause resistance, resistance causes heat, heat kills batteries... DC electrical is like a water pipe, the bigger it is the better it flows. (With in reason.). If you interested in what and how I did mine, its all in my build thread in my sig line. CW
  16. I'm really liking dem claws!!!   CW
  17. Anything is possible with the drive and determination. But that is a pretty big assembly to fit the relatively narrow XJ/MJ nose. I think someone could carry over enough of the attributes to make a damn nice looking nose!! I'd attempt it, if I had the pieces parts. CW
  18. Not specfically, Its expressly designed for poop pipe! :D :brows: But thats fine with me, for what I want its just fine. I'm not protecting life and limb, (thats what my 45 is for :shake: ) I'm protecting sheetmetal. The key is having the material fit the mandrels correctly. Today I polished the 1" mandrel. its nice and smooth and fits my pipe almost perfectly. Next week I'll pick up some material and start practicing bending it!
  19. GOOD LOOKIN' BUMPERS!!! I'm not a fan of that style of weld on "D" ring. Hope they are welded on good!!  Personally, I don't like any surface welded tow point. Should be thru mounted and welded front and back. But they do look really nice!! ;) CW
  20. LOL, I have.. TWICE!! Its just dosen't stay stuck!! LOL.. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Last time I cleaned them good and wipped them down with salvisol too!! :dunno: Any suggestions?? CW
  21. Let the bending begin... :brows: :brows: CW
  22. Lookie what momma got me for my birthday!! Bed protection, here I come!! bri
  23. As of today half the tickets have been sold. Do you have yours, I do??   CW
  24. Shocks should have nothing to do with flex. If they do they are improperly sized for the application. Personally I would mount them as close to vertical as possible. If they are as long as they appear, you will likely be forced to mount them at some angle. Bring the tops together in the center. They will be less efficient but its a worthwhile compromise. Also consider your tire size and shock length and get some bump stops installed as well. I like the factory XJ bumpstops and the "HELP" racks shock studs. CW
  25. Jeep coil spacers are jeep coil spacers, they are not model specfic. Not even front or rear specfic for the TJ & ZJ!!! CW
