Lower control arm alignment shoe

You talking these?? I replaced mine with brandy new factory units when the RE DB's where installed.... CW -
They are cool as long as someone else pays to feed it. :D The only one I would consider would be a supressed and shortened 10/22. At least most anyone could afford the ammo costs. CW

Sounds like your best option is a pre '90 long block. Swap over your tin and acessories to the new motor, drop it in and call it good. OR pick up a good running junker XJ and with them setting side by side, swap the parts!! Maybe there is come CC brothers local that like the beer and pizza you provide in exchange for help!! Call it a lil meet and greet!!! Where are you anyhow? If it where mine, I would be upgrading to a 4.7 /4.6 stroker. CW

All are semi, full auto would be illegal ;) there's some guys in the states that are able to own full autos ? i think This is correct. As long as you file the proper paperwork and get the proper signatures form local authorities, some full autos, short barrelled shotgun and silencers are PERFECTLY LEGAL to own ans use. CW

You paid 1100 for this?? I hope you know what your getting.. dosen't look worth it to me, but I know nothing about these vehicles... CW

My D35 is Growling at me.
CWLONGSHOT replied to JACKED88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK, Yes the D35 can and does survive for some people. Mine is still good and sitting in the back of the garage. I swapped in a D44 form a XJ some years back. My D35 in the TJ was toasted on the street with 31"s!! So wanna keep it, just roll the dice and hope for the best. What everyone is saying to you is you NEED to spend money, don't spend it polishing a turd. Spend it upgrading to a better axle. For the cheapest option here in CT, I would be looking for a '99+ Cherokee (XJ) 8.25 axle. It gets you the correct width and a much stronger housing and a slightly better axle shaft. Overall its as strong as the highly touted D44. Remember the weak point for most axles is its housing, NOT the axle shaft or carriers. the 8>25 is a very strong housing with 3" tubes and a large carrier housing. Then remove the perches and shock mounts. Weld of new MOPAR perches and bolt it in, using the MJ lower spring plates and call it good. Be sure you get the correct axle ratio for the front axle and FORGET about factory traction devices. They where all LS units that are more slip than traction, NOT WORTH EVEN CONSIDERING. The 8.8 is narrower by 5/8" EACH side. So aft market rims or spacers will be needed. Then its a flanged mount, not a yeke like or MJ/J's. So you will need that too. Its a good axle, but you need to consider the short comings. As for the Dakota axles, the early ones are the 27 Spl variety. the later ones are the wrong 6lug rims. Not a real option IMHO. The Liberty's 8.25 is a good axle, but its a coil spring setup. Lots of stuff to chop off. Unless its free or really cheap look for a XJ axle. Again, not a worthy consideration IMHO. How close to CT are you? I'll make you a good deal on my Mj D35! Its got new brakes 3:55 gears and a lock rite installed!! :brows: :brows: :brows: CW -
EXO cage tree protection...
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is pretty much what I am thinking. Only dropping it just below the bed line as the bed is at its widest point there. Can you get me pics of his setup? I'd love to see exactly what others have done. Here is a pic of a hand drawn pic, its a work in progress: Its a view from front to back, (Or back to front  ) If you can follow it. I added a piece of 1 1/2" or 2" steel running lengthwise under the tube. With additional standoffs welding to it. (Not welding to the bed box anywhere) What it doesn't show is the 90 degree bend at the back that wraps to the rear above the tail lites or the cross piece running between the cab and bed. Both will stop or resist deflection from heavy contact. While at the same time spreading out the forces over a larger area to further resist damage to any one point. Again, removal is something I want to incorporate. For painting and repair. The ideas are GREAT keep them coming!!!   CW -
LOL I hear that allot!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: LMK your coming and I'll be sure there is room!!! CW

EXO cage tree protection...
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It had some pretty bad rust around and over the wheel wells. That's now gone. I also had some on the sides under the diamond plate. that was cut out before the diamond plate went in. there is a bit inside the bed, in the very back. But this has been stripped, cleaned and repainted. In the last 3-4 years the holes are small and have done nothing. I thought about bobbing, but that's not where I want to go with this rig. Its a long bed and its staying that way. That's why I built the rear protection. I went thru a hole where a good deal of the weight was off the rear tires, because the bumper was on the ground before we got thru the hole!! The protection worked perfectly and slid right over with no hangups!! Other than the tight turns, the length isn't really a huge negative. In our woods wheeling here, everything seems to be off camber. Add some rain like its done here all month and lockers. As soon as the tires spin the vehicle heads down hill into the trees on the side of the trail. So just like rock rails protect our rockers, this rail will protect my bed lines. THX for the pic, I'll size it up for better viewing. My own rock sliders seem to work well, (home built, CK my build) even so, I will also be extending them a bit. Maybe just under the doors as a pseudo step of sorts... CW -
Trying to find a thread on a custom hand throttle

I hope you have a stick... I have one on the TJ as its a stick. Not something I use all the time, but many times when that third foot is needed its saved the day!! I used a bicycle shifter, cable and brake adjuster thru the firewall to the TB. CW -
Gator, Why are you yelling????? Dropping a V8 into a XJ/MJ is no problem what so ever. But as mentioned cooling it is a major issue. Golen and Hesco both make long blocks and complete stroker motors that IMHO, are a much better choice. There is a TON of info out there.. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/index ... 99f659eaec http://offroad-review.com/new/index.php?page=70 http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/ ... index.html http://www.jeepnuts.com/tech/stroker.htm http://home.pacbell.net/jay_w007/Hesco_motor.html http://www.hesco.us/ CW

The Asin Warner 4speed auto was used an a number fo other vehicles.. Toyota Supra & some toyota trucks for example... From Wikipedia: The Aisin-Warner four-speed automatic transmission (AW4) was selected by AMC in 1987 for use in the Cherokee XJ's new inline six-cylinder 4.0 L design. It was manufactured by Aisin-Warner, a member of the Toyota group, in partnership with Borg-Warner. It shares many parts with the Aisin 450-43LE that is used in Toyota off-road vehicles. The AW4 is also used behind the 2.5 L (150 in³) AMC Straight-4 engine. It has a removable bell housing with a cutout for the crank position sensor. Early AW4s used both 21- and 23-spline output shafts. In the 1991 the AW4 was changed to a 23-spline output shaft, concurrent with adoption of the High Output (commonly known as H.O.) inline six-cylinder engine. CW -

Here is a couple sketches I made showing my ideas so far... CW -
ge OK guys, I'm looking for pics and ideas for some bed side protection. I am NO fan of exo cages and feel there is a fine line between cool and gaudy. Exos are way cool while off road on a all out rig. but scream mall crawler when on the road. ESP when on a otherwise clean rig like my MJ. My club has a couple pieces of property for wheeling. its New England and its in the woods. Ad to that mix lockers and the off camber the rolling hills found here and you end up with tree contact. Last week end we had a trail run on one of these pieces and try as I may, i ended up in the trees all too often. Most times I was able to winch or get pulled off with mere scratches. But one time I dented the drivers door, front fender right in front of the windshield pillar and the tail, just above the tail lites. Image Not FoundImage Not Found Let the ideas and pics flow. I intend this to be hashed out thoroughly before the build begins, sometime after the first of the year. For the spring runs to follow. My ideas so far... Some 2-3" angle iron for the bed side tops. The horizontal piece on top of the bed side while the vertical on the inside of the bed. Attach to that5-6, 3" wide 1/4" thick "stand-offs" with some 1 1/4" poop pipe welded to that. So it sits approx 2" off the bed side just below the top of the bed side. Then a 90 degree bend wrapping around the back terminating in another 1/4" thick piece that gets bolted in to the latch for the tail gate. Up front I plan another 2-3" wide piece of 1/4" stock running between the bed and the cab welding to both sides and bolting to the bed. Also considering another full length piece of 3/16" thick, 3" wide flat stock ON the bed side and welded to the inside of the pipe running the length of the bed. Finally two removable cross pieces that will get installed when wheeling and out for DD purposes. Know that I am no good at any of the drawing or cad programs to show pics of what I am describing. What I would like to see and hear is your ideas or pics of parts of exo cages you liked or where impressed with. CW

I had seats that looked just like thet. Only mine where out of a 2door XJ with the rockers. I likeld them well enough. But at the time, my 6' 270Lb frame didn't fit too well. I swapped them out for these babys from JCWhitney a couple years ago when they ran a buyone get one free WITH SHIPPING deal. I like these seats much better. Even better now with my new thinner, trimmer frame. :brows: CW

Hey, NICE looking trailer!! BTW, the scanoe is OK too. :D I always liked them as well. I bought a DICKS 17' canoe a couple years ago as couldn't find any used scanoes around. (New far too costly) CW
