  1. It's been done. If I recall correctly its quite a long engine and takes some work to shove it in an XJ/MJ
  2. You've got the B3.3 correct? I suppose if the right deal came around I'd consider one.
  3. Made some caster shims with the plasma cutter. Anyone know why RE says "the use of shims is not recommended"??
  4. Here's a home brew ALH XJ conversion. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1083172
  5. Just when I thought I was always going to have black d windows... More pics!
  6. I went through those threads some time ago. Maybe I should give myself more credit, but I just don't think I could put together a conversion like this and a.) complete it; and b.) be happy with the fit&finish, serviceability, etc. Some things I'm more prone to pay an engineer to do! Lol
  7. Not sure if this was really necessary; but hey its easy to get at right?!
  8. No doubt most people would never make up for the cost in fuel savings. I'm not totally sold on this or any conversion by any means, and I would NEVER pay someone to do that kind of work for me; not that it's not worth good money for someone's time but I'm capable of the installation part myself. I'm just glad to see a big player (HPA Motorsports) paying attention to ye olde XJ/MJ platform! I'd break it down like this Pros (justifications for spending 5 or even 8k on a TDI conversion): -mpg -similar (or better) torque curve compared to a 4.0 -Weight savings on the front susp. -Cool factor! Who wouldn't love a 4cyl diesel in their MJ!? You'd end up with a 25-30mpg daily-drivable COMANCHE! Not a boring econobox or stupid modern truck loaded full of nav. systems, heated seats, power butt-scratchers, etc. (that cost ~ $20k anyways btw.) Cons: -cost -complexity of the modern electronically controlled diesel and the maintenance that comes with it.
  9. +1 on the late Fiero being a sweet car. I'd love to do an LSJ Ecotec swap in one someday.
  10. What a deal right?! [emoji12] I can't even conceive having that kind of money to front for a project! I would personally only be interested in getting the main components from them (truss, trans. adapter, and maybe a downpipe)
  11. Their site has been updated. Still a little foggy on details. http://www.cotybuilt.com/index.html
  12. Picked up some used RE control arm drop brackets from Timeless here on CC. Cleaned up; they'll work great!
  13. Modified tastefully and driven! Love it :)
  14. Or a cracked head or both.
  15. I've had poor luck with aftermarket surge tanks in general. I got an OEM tank, cap, and thermostat and the cooling system works like, well, OEM! Lol
  16. Well, I just pulled the trigger on the RE9900 kit. I'll fab up some braces later on. Lets see how they fit up!
  17. So there's no modifications you had to make to fit up the Rough Country brackets to the MJ? It's only the brace that's a XJ vs MJ issue?
  18. So the "extra" part that's welded onto the otherwise XJ-identical mount? I've seen it called a brace or gusset... I think we're talking about the same thing... and by what I read using the RC braces will require them to be trimmed down as well. I'm intrigued now; can I use the RE9900 kit (mount relocation parts alone,) use it brace-less for a time, and later design and build some braces that work with the factory MJ frame?? I'd love to NOT cut up my truck if I don't have to!
  19. -The factory ones? -So, no brace at all? Just the drop brackets?
  20. I've never been thrilled with going this route in the first place but it looks to be the best choice right now ($$$) to get it riding safe/correct. I've read up as much as I can stand; including threads like this one that are MJ specific: http://comancheclub.com/topic/18066-lower-control-arm-drop-bracket/?hl=arm+drop This is what I've come up with so far: RRO (Rocky Road Outfitters): Pros: Strong, one-piece, MJ specific design Cons: LOTS of pretty crappy reviews on customer service and product quality/fitment. Sounds like a real gamble. RCX (Rough Country): Pros: Cost, availability, reliable supplier/manufacturer, cost. Cons: Multipiece design, designed for XJ (have to remove MJ gussets,) puny bolt-on bracket brace. RCE (Rubicon Express): Pros: Beefy bracket brace (extends to crossmember,) big collar/bushing on upper bracket (compared to RCX.) Cons: Don't really know much about the product! Haven't seen anyone use it on an MJ... I'll be making a decision next week. Any additional feedback is welcome, especially on the RCE kit!
