Prayers to you and your family Don.........

I'm guessing we're between 10-12"........my driveway is untouched. MJ moved to the end of the driveway and wife's MDX ready to go too, it's pretty damn good in the snow. If I had a snow blower I'd happily clear it, but when clearing the driveway depends on Armstrong Snow Shovel Service , I depend on 4wd to do their job.

Seat Belt Bolt Size
WahooSteeler replied to johnny quest's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Coming down steady here Jeff, expected 6-8 inches. Doesn't help that my truck is not engaging in 4wd right now! Transfer case is engaging but axle is not. Visual on the CAD lines in the engine bay looks ok, haven't crawled under it yet. But I digress............ I'm good on the seat belt bolts, got some from Team Cherokee......thanks for offering though! -

the new Jeep truck. it is what we all thought it would be.

Wasn't trying to debate you gogmorgo, just thought I'd post the dimensions of the trucks in that segment. That said, I don't think it's apples to oranges by any stretch though, maybe oranges to tangerines..........same family, slight differences. The Gladiator has the largest interior volume, and my guess is the short bed is to help keep it a Jeep....short overhangs to aid in off-road ability and utility value. None of the pictures so far depict the vehicle being used as a working truck, they are all tied in to the outdoor lifestyle of the true Jeep enthusiast. While Jeep will always say that is their target market, they also know it will be a pavement queen for lots of people and a status statement and IMO there's no doubt there counting on a lot of those sales to make it profitable. -

Gearing: spline count and speedo gears

Dirty, just to further educate me and clarify, does this include if the gears are with the full assembly, i.e. carriers, spider gears etc? -

Congrats on the new gig. The best job you will ever have is the one you love doing and it is evident in your post that being an operator is what you want to do. Sounds like a great opportunity with all the different equipment you can learn on and master!

I read it will handle 35s with no lift, but Mopar already has a ton of accessories ready to go for it including a 2 inch lift to clear 35s a little better. -
Gearing: spline count and speedo gears
WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the good info, thick gears it will be on the D30. I have the Trak-Loc on my D44 also, but I'm still good with my stock carrier since I currently have 3.54s, correct? Or will I need thick gears on the rear also? Just making sure....... -

WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Even though my truck does not see the interstate that much, that's exactly why I was thinking 3.73s also. So I would need a new carrier for the D30 when I do this? -

WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Replied to your post above........factory 3.54s are in the truck now, the ones I was asking about were 3.73s. When the time comes, I'll look for 3.73s or 4.10s. Doesn't seem too bad with the 3.54s now, so I was thinking 3.73s might be a good compromise compared to going to 4.10s -

Ok, thanks guys. Not something I "have" to do or high on my priority list, but I thought if I could get the R&P really cheap I'd grab them for later on. Carry on.......that is all. -

Sooooo.........I didn't think about it before since the guy is selling the carriers and gears all together, but I should be able to use my existing carriers and just use the ring and pinion gears and be good to go, correct? -

I gotta say, after watching the unveil and seeing it in Rubicon trim.........I dig it. There, I said it LOL. Obviously it is not a full-size truck by any stretch but interesting that they were very specific to say it is in the midsize truck segment to compete with the likes of the Colorado, Canyon, new Ranger and of course Yota's and the new Frontier that is coming out. 4 door pickups with small/short beds are almost all you see on the road these days in the pickup world, whether it's a midsize or full-size. So while we dream of a regular cab or extended cab version, I think we all know it probably ain't gonna happen. Maybe there's an outside shot of an extended cab long bed since it could be the same wheelbase, but I'm not going to hold my breath. They'll sell these as fast as they can build them for the first 5 yrs IMO. I also find it ironic of how many posts there have been on CC over the years saying Jeep/Chrysler missed the boat by not making a 4dr Comanche and now that there is a 4dr Jeep pickup everyone is bashing it and saying the bed is too small yada yada yada. It will hold 2 dirt bikes, it will haul a big load of mulch, plenty of firewood, a decent load of stone, trash to the dump or plenty of camping gear. It will easily tow your utility trailer or good size camper. My last new car (well, for my wife) was in 2005 and since then I've had good luck with low mileage 3-5yr old vehicle purchases so I'll have to wait 5-6yrs to let someone else depreciate one for me before I am willing to spend the money on one, but it will be on my radar. -

Mine is an '88 -
Two questions: 1. Is there any way to look up or determine spline count in my D30 & D44 without pulling axles and counting? There is a set of 3.73s on FB Marketplace from a JK that the seller SAYS only had 5k miles on them before he swapped out. The D44 was a 30 spline and the D30 had 27 spline axles. Guy is asking $500 OBO. Good price? 2. Need to change my speedo gear. I have a 231 transfer case, do I need the short shaft gear or long shaft? I'm thinking the short shaft but need confirmation. Yes I could pull the current one to confirm, but it's been 30* in the evenings lately! LOL

Gotchya, and I meant to clarify when I said "needing some work" that it could be you doing the work or paying a shop. Not a ton of engine or trans mods on the 4.0's if you're not going to wheel it. I use mine similarly, i.e. DD for my son and the occasional work truck, and while there are a ton of other "mods", and many of them highly recommended, they are more for reliability and maintenance. Patience will find you one in as good if not better condition than the one you posted, and likely for less. Keep us posted!

After your last epic build, anxiously watching for updates on this too. The door art looks cool......simple but effective IMO, kinda Sandford & Son'ish lol
