GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6
tkgibbs27 replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
considering swapping the 2.8 for a 4.0 instead of the 3.4 (too hard to find) despite the firewall. the 4.0 are a whole lot more common over here. my dad is willing to help me out with it so i am not concerned about all the work having to be done. but i am curious about the 4.5 stroker you can get from putting in the 258 crank. is that all you have to do or do you have to change the header or shorten the pistols or anything? -
Death Wobble is not always the track bar

i have bad dw at 40 to 50, but you can feel it shaking at times when you first start off driving for that day. when in 2nd gear (i have an auto), it doesn't shake at all, not even at lower speeds. i am not going to be throwing a lot of money at every issue this could be, because unfortunately, i don't have any money. so one of my dads buddies that he works with has a brother who is a mechanic. and he is going to take a look at it during the second week of march. he's over half way across the states right now i believe. but i have been told he knows the mjs like the back of his hand. -
dang, still a bit chilly. yeah it's a nice, other than this chilly breeze that comes through, it had been a little breezy a few times last week, but when that breeze isn't coming through, it's pretty warm. it wasn't that bad this year, we didn't get much snow. but the year before we got plenty of snow. i am pretty much in a desert here in washington.

what's the average temp. over there during the winter? today it's in the 50's. highest next week is supposed to be 61 i think. i sure hope so.
-
don't know about the rest of the country, but it's starting to get warmer around here. it's pretty nice outside today. was yesterday and the day before, basically all last week it was nice. hopefully this cold weather will be gone real soon. it'll be easier to find a job (i got in with the carpenters union about two weeks ago), and start working on my truck, mostly being able to repaint it.

It does not considered as a project

haha if they are the fiberglass ones, i fought with the one i had on my truck for sometime. the metal ones are a piece of cake. -
i took out some speakers from an old van sitting around, took out all the plastic around, and hooked up the speakers, now i have six (front, mid, rear). they aren't anything fancy, but they work and sound good enough.

400 cases, damn that could be carried on for a few days.

i had a jeep powerwheels when i was toddler. but that thing got destroyed, i rode it until it fell apart and then i bisected it for the good parts to make another one. never did, and ended up throwing it away. it was a badass toy during those years.

yeah that is right. i saw some where that the 4L could just be dropped for swapping out the 2.5L. i don't know if it was legit or not. i still haven't found out whether mine was one of those newer 86's. the sticker on the door is faded away. i don't know what else i could do to find out.
-
you'll have to do some beating around to get that 4.0L to fit in. i was thinking about doing that to mine but i am going to drop a 3.4L in her instead. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... highlight= was also thinking about putting in a 258. EDIT: by the way, that's a good looking mj. looks to be in real good condition.

 looking good

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Cherry-Auto-Parts the shipping is what really gets me. otherwise this would probably be the best site i have ever came across for used parts. they have just about everything i was looking for.
-
well i have been looking around for a camaro or firebird since some of you guys have recommended the 3.4L swap. no luck finding a cheap one, nor finding just the engine and tranny. seem pretty scarce around here, but i am still keep my eyes wide open for one. one of my buddies was telling me that his friend has a 94 or 95 camaro auto, that he is pretty sure that his buddy is selling, but wasn't quite sure how much he wanted for it.
-
ha really. lowest i have seen around here is 800$. what are you from mjohnny?
-
i think it's a short bed. i was gonna say, if it was a long bed, if you ever wanted to get rid of the canopy you should let me know. i am looking for a long bed canopy. EDIT: i think wahoosteeler is right. the bed didn't look as long as mine though. hmmm

is she a long bed or short bed?
