putting an MJ body on a j10 frame...
pingpong replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I was contemplating something like this :shake: I would think using a compact truck frame like an S10 or 4 door blazer would be more appropriate. This is one of those jobs were you really have to want it to make it happen, and money is going to run from your pockets trying to amke it happen -
I am doing a doubler set-up on my rig. Mine is a lil different though. I am going with a np203 and d300. That way I will have the ability to change to a 4to 1 if I find my ratios are not low enough. Depending on what setup you use there are plenty of triple stick setups available now

I have been following your post on PBB, and it sis really an expensive route to go, especially if you build it to take abuse. The triangulated 4 ling is far supperior to the 3 link, and is also easier to set up if you ask me. My advice is don't skimp on the quality of the joints. You can save some cash by making your own brackets if you have lots of free time ( I don't so I buy my brackets) Loosing the fuel tank and going with a fuel cell is expensive, but won't compromise the design for cost

This is my first Comanche!!

Dude... Nice rig. Do us a favor though and put some axle stands under that and remove the blocks of wood. really hate not getting to know you cause your rig fell on top of you -
NO... If the other job is nice.. they might let you draw your short term but there is nothing that says you can double dip. Take me for example.. I normally work around 56-60 hrs a week, Because I am normally scheduled 45hrs a week, I would draw 2/3 of the 45 hrs, not the 2/3 of 56 hrs. Big pay difference there

"what if" questions thread...
pingpong replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the change happened in 97. This is why having a SYE is so important -
Workmans comp is only required to pay you 2/3 of your regular wages before taxes. Which if you are like me, means you will take home about the same money. Also it is not taxable. Short term disability payments from an insurance company ae taxable.

Hold on.. I just got the new differentials book by Randys :D on page 103 it says with the v-10 it should be a dana 80 rear if it is equipped with a manual trans the front should be a passenger side offset, with standard rotation 35 spline inners with 32 spline outers using a unit bearing (page 78-79)

I used mine with stock uppers and lowers, and everything seemed all right, and my wheels seemed centered Yeah thats an Old pic of Pong :D -
I have used the RE HD trac bar and mount on all my rigs that I have built, and Have had zero issues. As every one knows I am easy on my stuff :shake: I read the lil article, I want to know how the bar broke.... I didnt read anything about real world testing, just comparisons. Also it appears that you used the lighter duty part and compared it to the only part RK offered I think that the design limitations were exceeded by some means for that trac bar to break. More then likely over stuffing the suspension, or over flexing. It might just be me as well, but the RE TB is much cheaper if ordered from a different vender then what you can get it from on their site.

I should be getting a used 8724 here soon :D

I didnt have an issue catching the DB's, even at Tellico  I think tire placement might be an issue then -
Here is the deal on welding the tubes to the axle, I have personally done 3 with no failures. You need to really clean it first I like to pull the ring gear out (makes it easier to lincoln lock that as wel) Then i take my propane torch out and pre heat the center chunk, you can buy preheat crayons at a welding supply store to ensure you hit the correct temp you want about 300 Then I make small 1-2" passes moving 180* degrees away from the last weld, until welded all the way around. Then I do a complete cover pass. Repeat for the other side

Co2 is pressurized to about 300PSI, and it expands when released. My 20 LB tank can air up about 8 sets of 33's from 10 psi to 27psi. Also provides about a 20 minute constant run time on an air tool, provided it doesn't freeze up. don't ask how I know

I ran them on Pong for a yr and some, and I thought they worked great. I did not use the braces, and I didnt see any adverse affects on my setup, that doesn't mean they wouldn't help, or not needed. I was running Rusty's 6.5 coils, so maybe thats why I liked them so much -
Not an MJ...but it is a JEEP!!!
pingpong replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Nice Love the 2 door Xj's. As soon as I finish a few things on Pong... I think I am going to build that next -
Scrappy has an MJ? Watch out Eagle!
pingpong replied to scrappy's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
This sounds Kick @$$. What kinda doubler are you looking at doing? As for the Toy axles, I have seen them with stand some serios abuse under sami's around here and sounds like you got a good plan -
Who's using steering reinforcement plates or braces?
pingpong replied to 88MJay's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Casper has the C-rok plates, no cracks, so I gues it does what it is suppose to :dunno: Pong has a Rigidco bumper that has the box plates and no cracks, so I guess it works :dunno: But.... I have never had a XJ or MJ develop cracks either :hmm: -
I had a cheap winch on Pong.... the Black Mountain that Collins brothers sell. It was painfully slow :brows: and stalled out way before its rated capacity. Wasit a good fit for my cheap budget yes... would I reccommend buying a cheap winch again HELL NO. Spend the money on a better winch that you can get parts for yourself. IE warn Mile marker T-Max, Tabor. Keep in mind line speed does matter if you are at a park that makes you pay for being late
-
That sounds about right... The rules get pretty complex as you go faster BTW jeff see what I picked up :D
-
Yeah Pong is completely exo'd and Back halfed, and barely a jeep any more, and still under construction again What you see next to it, is another project of mine called Casper... Specs on it are full width f150 axles (8.8/D44) 4.10's locked in the rear. Straight six, AX15, and a lil bit of armor, on 33's Then I have an 85 2 DR XJ with a TBI 4.3/700r4/np207.... 3" RE lift, and 32's So I guess that makes the count 4 complete rigs then I have a CJ5 tub and complete cage sitting at a friends house that we are going to build a mud bog truck out of Lets not forget my tow rig and the 2 cars the wife and I have.... so we have a few :brows:
