  1. Last ones I did I got out just fine with a pair of pliers. :dunno:
  2. :clapping:
  3. It's really not that bad. I was able to add the 5th gear to an AX-4 without any schooling and never even having a manual transmission apart before. I've seen detailed diagrams of how automatics work, and I'd still probably be scratching my head by the time I open one up. I think they're fascinating, but I personally prefer a stick over an auto. If I've gotta use an auto to go through some trails, I guess I'd be skipping those trails. But that's just my personal preference. :dunno:
  4. If the trans is stuck in forth, you wouldn't be able to move the shift left and right unless you put it into R or 2nd, which would cause it to be stuck in 2 gears. Can you move the shifter around properly? If that's the case, and it's still stuck in gear, then something inside the transmission broke and it'll need to be opened up. Where are you located? If you're nearby I'd be more that willing to help you yank the trans and open her up.
  5. I'd imagine there's one or two Sidekick/Tracker forums out there. I don't think a whole lot of CC members have one of them. Have you tried pirate4x4? there's a good variety of trucks on there.
  6. I don't really see it happening. Why do you want it to do that? Every one I've had you could turn about 160 degrees out so it acted as an air scoop.
  7. It's just as(if not moreso) likely that the steering column from an automatic was swapped in as well. IIRC one of the digits in the VIN specifies if it was an auto or manual
  8. That would be good, we seem to be missing one.
  9. I can't seem to find the thread on it either, but you should be able to pop the vac actuator off, pull the c-clip off the shaft, move the fork over, and put the c-clip back on. Then just move the collar in the axle over to the locked position, and put the actuator back on.
  10. How are you towing it? If the trans is stuck in two gears, the T-case is in anything but neutral, and the driveshaft is connected, the wheels will not move.
  11. I've never understood the quick reply thing. I just don't see the point. Is it really that difficult and time consuming to hit Reply first? Side not to Pete: If the chance to switch over to vBulletin ever comes up.. consider me strongly against :ack:
  12. My GF's 12 year old daughter told me the other day that she wants her first car to be a stick, wants nothing to do with automatics.
  13. To really see in there, you may have to remove the weird shifter arm that's on that slider. To do that, you'll need to remove your T-case, and remove the bolt holding it in, and the retainer bolt on top.
  14. I had that problem happen with an AX-5 right after I had put it in the truck. (used to be an AX-4, I added the 5th gear, so everything hadn't quite been lubed up yet) The shifter for 5th/rev somehow got stuck in 5th. I was able to put it in 3rd, move the shifter over halfway towards 5th, then pull it back and get both sliders back into neutral. This is something you could not possibly think to do unless you've had one of these transmissions apart. Take the shifter off, and take a look inside. There will be an oddly shaped piece that the shifter sat on, and that has an arm that goes down to the three sliders. Get a flashlight, and look down at the sliders, see if they're all lined up. It's pretty hard to get a transmission stuck in two gears at once. They have a complicated internal spring system that's supposed to prevent it, but it's possible.
  15. If you've got the whole donor, time, money, fab skills, and the truck doesn't need to be running, definitely go for it. Is the S-10 a driver's side drop for the T-case?
  16. Whoever bobbed the bed did an amazing job, I gotta say.
  17. Due to a recent conversation, I'm interested to see which is more popular between driving a stick or an auto for a DD/mild wheeler.
  18. It might fit in, but you're going to lose a lot of spline engagement. You can try putting it in, but I think the yoke's going to be abit further out than you want.
  19. It's essentially the same differences between Laredo, Chief, Pioneer, Sport, etc on the XJs.
  20. :wall: :headpop: :fs1: :ack:
  21. Got my hopes up just to shoot them down. :( :peek:
  22. D44 with what gears by you?
  23. If it's got the gearing you want, and it's in decent shape, $250 is a good price.
  24. Hey, just didn't want him to think the D-shaft for the D44 needed to be an inch longer...
