Burping the Renix Closed System
Drahcir495 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Not a lot of hills around here, so I used jack stands. Never got it to work . This definitely got the job done -

Those hood vents can’t be factory right? Still, it is a nice looking Comanche.

You mean with the phone? I plan on getting the mount and anything else that goes with it. I can get the instrument cluster too, if you want to impress your friends -

I guess I will have to go back and get it - if it’s not over $50 lol. I am going to the LQK this Saturday, but not the same one. I will keep ya all posted! It will be up for sale - cost and shipping my friends. -
There are so many “why is my Jeep overheating” and “how do I burp my closed Renix system” threads on the Jeep forums that it seems it is a pandemic. The procedure is always the same; raise the back of the Jeep. Open up the coolant sensor on the back of the motor. Then keep adding coolant to the overflow bottle until the bubbles stop and it is level at top of the hole. Well, I just had to replace my radiator and of course it had air trapped on the system. I raised my Jeep up in the rear as high as my jack stands would allow me and followed the instructions exactly on what I needed to do. I then ran the motor again to move the fluid through the motor just for and . Then I just let it run and it overheated again . I finally gave up; I was done with it . I called Dee at Just Jeep’s to make an appointment to bring it in. He asked me if I had burped the system? If I had, how did I do it? He had a technique that I have never heard of before. In all my years of asking and searching on all the Jeep forums, here was an actual alternative to the jack up the rear of the Jeep pray. Well, my mind is officially blow away by this! I am going to post this little gem on the Comanche Club so that anyone who is looking to “burp” a Renix motor will visit our community and realize how great we all are ! Enough babbling, on to the good stuff * The process is really simple.Take off the clamp on the small hose that’s attached to the thermostat housing lol. Then pull the hose off the fitting. Open up the coolant “turtle” bottle and add water! I will explain why just water in a bit. You can just pour the water into the coolant overflow bottle, but I chose to do this with a hose to force the water through the system and expedite the process -> The opening on the thermostat housing will start to pour water out -> Mine bubbled for quite a while. As soon as it looked like no more air was escaping through the hole, I put the hose back on. I figured that this way it would not run out of water and possibly take in air back into the system. This process is kinda the same as draining a fish tank with a hose; get the hose below the tank and gravity will work it’s magic . This is where using the water first becomes clear. Instead of just wasting good money on antifreeze to flush out the air, the water does most of the work. Now, take the hose off the outlet again and go back to the coolant overflow bottle and start adding your favorite flavor of radiator coolant. The antifreeze will actually push out the water. Just keep filling the bottle until the water is replaced with that sweet sweet green elixir . As soon as you’re satisfied that nothing but coolant is exiting the block, just slip the hose back on and tighten it down with the hose clamp. Conclusion; it worked the first time and no more overheating . I can’t wait to hear how works for others with the closed system and that it was not just beginners luck. I hope this will be helpful - Rich

I looked everywhere online to find the hood latch release rod, but I couldn’t find anything, but what only looked like an expensive complete kit. I gave up and looked at the list of Jeeps they had in the lot at the LQK. They luckily had two Cherokee’s; 88 & 94. While there I was checking out the interior of the 88 when I noticed this -> Wow! 808237 miles . It also had this gem in it -> I ended up getting the rod off the 94 XJ because, in my mind, it had a heck less miles on it -> Not happy with how much how much I paid for a small piece of rod; $8, but not much I could do with no other option and a hood I can’t close. All good now. -

One of our fellow CC’ers had an amazing under hood insulation pad. I need to go back and find out who replied to my comment but they let me know that they were available new . I went to team Cherokee as suggested and they had them for around $75. Heck yeah! Put it in my cart and went to check out and said 109. I thought that was a little steep to add 30 something dollars to ship it. I was not happy about it, but I would love with it. Almost pressed confirm until I looked at the total . They wanted $109 for shipping! Pack sand idiots. Ended up getting it for the same price at Team Grand Cherokee with free shipping-> It came with all the clips to hang it up too -> My pad was in rough shape. Stains, zip ties holding spots together and separation of the pad itself-> I Began to carefully take the pad off the hood when I thought what was I doing? Just started to rip it out at this point-> Got the pad off and it was filthy underneath it-> Used a brush and some degreaser on it and it came out pretty good -> Then I got it all in -> I like it . I realized that two of the holes in the pad did not the clip holes to hold down those sections of the pad. I drilled the holes, admittedly too large, and snapped one in. I lost the second clip but it showed up in the battery tray a day later. Buuut, in the process this happened-> The release rod broke at the weld . Now what?! I am going to the pick n pull at 8am to carefully pull one off either an 88 or 96 they have there. -
I have seen only around 3 in as many years and one is a guy I work with

You know, I didn’t even think of that.

Actually I put in the grant steering wheel.

Thank you

I think the black one. Only one wire has come through

Hey guys. I am looking for new horn options for the XJ. I am not looking to get one of those train horns, just something to let them know I am here. I would like to know what you all are using and what you recommend. I am missing the one wire for the factory horn button some where in the steering column, so I have nothing right now.

Today is the last day I wave at a new JK. I have been waving at them for weeks just seeing if I get a wave back. Nada. I will not wave anymore. I Could see if the lifted ones wave, but I doubt a lil old XJ is not a real Jeep

That truck looks like it is beautiful but we need more pictures to really be certain -
I always liked that color blue from the newer style XJ’s. What a great foundation for your build. How hard was it to get the new style door to work?
-
I wave at at all the new jeeps without getting 2% to wave back. But I am in a Cherokee? Hate the angry eyes, but I still wave. I feel bad, but I only wave at the lifted Grand Cherokee’s.

Dang, that ruined it for me 😄. I did not see that until you mentioned it. Even so, looks like a lot of good parts on it. Great find though.
