Renix to High Output Engine Management System
Drahcir495 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought the same thing if it ain't broke . . . he is saying the Renix computers are becoming harder to find when they fail and they are over 30 years old now. Also I should be utilizing the benefits of the newer motor and technology. He has a donor jeep there that he can scavenge from. And I just bought the REM from Nick last night before I got his call this morning ugh. I am way past wanting to do this myself. There was a time before starting a family that I would have taken this head on myself. Now, I just want it reliable and simple. -
I should have already done a search but I need some input on switching to the HO computer etc away from the Renix system. I have the Jeep at a Jeeps only mechanics shop. I have an 1998 XJ motor in my MJ now. I have the renix system running it. He suggested that I switch it over to the newer engine management system - computer and all that goes with it. Has anyone done this before? He makes it sound likes its no big deal to convert. I am not sure about this? It was running fine with the way its set up now. The guy really knows his stuff but what happens if something goes wrong and I have to explain the Frankenstein set up to someone else? I have a lot of questions but I just want to get the advice rolling.

That is what I was looking at.How is the quality of this? I also question the look of the 3D printing. Does it stand out against the other plastic pieces? Thank you for the picture

Anyone using this - https://nickintimedesign.com/product/renix-engine-monitor-ii/ . I really don't know what all it does ? Is it something of value to have? This IS my last jeep, so if can get something to keep it going I'm going to do it.

It's really tight back there but I got it to work. Here's what I did. Undo a coat hanger to fish it through. Once you have it fed through, just tape the RCA cables to the end and carefully pull it back up. Be sure to make sure you leave extra cable behind it.

Sub and amp questions
Drahcir495 replied to WranglerMangler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmmm good to know. I use Crutchfield for all my stereo needs. I know this doesn't help you, but they have lifetime support and I used it often. -
Help identifying unknown hose
Drahcir495 replied to pastLart's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would agree with eaglescout - it looks like a breather hose minus the top of the plastic -
Missing Front Drive Shaft
Drahcir495 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dante2 thank you Cruiser54 - I'm in Wisconsin until the end of the month, so I am not able to measure anything yet. What am I shooting for? -
I just looked under my truck and noticed I don't have a front drive shaft? Maybe Its because the D44 front axle I put in had a u-joint a different size on the yolk end?? I really can't remember why or how long its been missing . Probably since I built it up . I have two drive shafts in the corner of the garage but I don't know if they are for the CJ or the Comanche??. Anyone got a picture of one I can compare to mine? If I don't have one, can I take one off a Cherokee and have the correct length?
-
My drivers side looked like that. It's really a hard thing to see and then feeling like it's a lost cause. But it isn't. I haven't heard any thing about the Cherokee replacement floor pans? I know this is a long shot but look for a junk yard MJ and take a reciprocating saw and cut out what you need. That's the route I took and it turned out great. I did have to fab up the seat mounts using small pieces of flat steel. It will require a friend with a welder though. I just welded the piece over over the rusted out floors verses trying to cut it in. Worked out well. Good luck and don't throw in the towel.

I have the Protofab rear bumper on mine. Not sure if they are making them any more but I really just needed an excuse to say nice looking truck
