Drahcir495's Build-up

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with keeping it spotless inside. I have calmed down a little bit since seeing it. I’m just hopeful that the interior will clean up fine. Have the truck lined up to be towed next week to the mechanic to get it mechanically sound. It has to be painted. No way around it. The rust is only going to get worse and the HOA will not be happy with an abandoned looking truck.

Got an 1988 MJ in at the local pull your part. Tailgate and taillights we gone already .  It had the black interior and factory center console but the arm rest was missing and the black insert was broken in half which is sad because it had the brake lever delete insert. I managed to get just that piece out. The B pillar lights were in awesome condition so of course I snagged those for my truck. ->

It still has the A and B pillar plastic in it and it’s in black. The rear bumper is in great shape. The lower portion of the center console in black is in it too

I think you'll find some relief once you get it home, cleaned up, and have time to sit back and relax.

IMHO I don't think its as bad as you think. Having a perfect show ready vehicle introduces a whole different level of stress and maintenance.

This actually makes me feel better about it. You’re right about having it perfect and the worrying that goes with it :L:

**Start of Rebuild**

I hated how I butchered up the center console with the idiotic Eaton E-locker switches and then cutting the front of the console insert to fit the CB in ->1917.JPG.15a29802bc7c518ba6c58b221a98f528.JPG

I didn't know enough about switches back then to realize I could use regular rocker switches instead of the ones that came with the lockers . I think I got the Idea from NickinTime to get a three rocker switch plate to put in the coin holder of the console insert. I already did this to the Cherokee and very happy with it. I grabbed a insert from an XJ and replaced the parking brake slot with a block off plate from a factory MJ. I cut out the bottom of the coin slot to get the three switches to drop into place ->

Lined it up, drilled the holes for the four screws and secured it with 4 stainless bolts ->

Painted the bolts black which looks a lot better

I went down to the shop to get the center console and a few other items I can work on while the Jeep is being worked on. I couldn’t figure out why the headliner looked bumpy->

just happened to look under the sun visor and found that a mouse had eaten a hole in the headliner :brickwall: ->

Great . . .

Not sure if it can be repaired? Need to go down this week and drop it to check out the damage

I spent a little time test fitting the shifter boot because I thought that maybe the switch plate would interfere with it going in. The plate was a bit larger and slightly creeped into the opening but it worked without issue->

I cleaned it up after ->

This is as clean as I could get the arm rest. The mold was too ingrained into the material ->

Sure, I could’ve put a few coats of paint on it but I'm just going to use the one with the Tuffy lock box from in the XJ. The arm rest on it is already modified to work, so I will hit it with the SEM shadow blue paint and it will be perfect :brows:. Besides, I already have the arm rest in gray to put back into the Cherokee.

I fixed my 88 MJ headliner by using fibreglass cloth and resin, it had some rips and bad spots in it, I had a corner ripped off even that I used resin to reattach it. I think you could do the same to yours...?

Is there a specific type of resin to use? I have no experience with that. I was directed to a thread by usn_jeepmj from another member. He used some expanding foam to build up an area for an overhead console. He sanded it smooth and used a two part epoxy to stiffen it up.

I have found one, within driving distance from me, from a member on here. So thankful that I can just redo the head board in my color :applause:.

I think I will store this one incase it can be fixed by someone who is capable of repairing it.
