Its a bit more then that but yes essentially you use a 258 crank and rods to produce a stroker motor. There is nothing chessy about making an extra 60~100 hp for such a simple mod.

I was looking into the 4.6l. looks to be pretty cheesy upgrade. you use a 258 rotating assembly. and that just drops in?

Do you regard stroking a 350 Chevy block to 383 a "cheesy upgrade"?

If not, why would this be any different?

Another thing. With that, you pull the old motor out, drop the stroker and some minor other upgrades in (i.e. injectors) in, and you're done. Poof.

V8 swaps take time, and modification. The 4.0 is a torquey little bastard as it is, and stroking it, I can imagine, is pretty freaking awesome. That's why I'm doing it.

I'm still in the planning stage of my mj rebuild. my ideal plan it to strip it down to the bare chassis. needless to say the rebuild is already part of the plan.

My mj has a motor from an 91 wrangler. said to be an H.O. but how would I know.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the 4.0 was NOT available until 93 in the wrangler from what I've seen.

'91. Came out with the H.O. in the XJ/MJs

yes, i know that.

but he's got a "91 wrangler" 4.0. I'm pretty certain that the first year for a 4.0 in the wrangler was 93 or so.

which would mean, if he's got a 91 wrangler motor, it's a 4.2.

From wikipedia..

The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC 258 I6 until 1991. That year, a fuel injected 180 hp (134 kW) 4.0 L AMC 242 variant replaced the 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L straight-6. The NP207 transfer case was used only in 1987 and replaced by the NP231

I've got the '91 Jeep brochure. '91 was the first year for the H.O in the wrangler. I promise. :D

yea i found that out. I just knew the wrangler had differences in years on stuff....and thought for some reason that 93 was the first year. guess not.

thanks, I'm smarter now :D

We learn something new everyday. I didn't know the Wrangler got the 4.0L in 1991 either. I thought it came along a little later in the Wrangler.
