knever3
I posted in the wanted section and poked around in the search, but not finding what I am looking for. I have the old Renix style oil filter that points to the rear of the engine, my short oil filter hits my Mean Green starter. I need to change to the one that locates the filter upwards, plus it's hard to find filters for this Dinosaur. Does anyone have one that want to part with, plus links to the O-rings would be a bonus!! Thanks!
89 MJ
IIRC, the Renix oil filter points up at roughly 45*. Sounds like you already have the HO one.
hgeranium
What 89MJ said. The Renix one is what you're looking for
Eagle_SX4
The oil filter adapter can be rotated to any angle you want. There is a location roll pin pressed into the block that can be removed and you can turn it any way you want. If you want to change the oil filter to the newer 3/4 thread the part number for the threaded adapter is 53007563AB. The oring sizes are listed here by Cruiser54

knever3
Hmm.... My filter housing looks like this: See how close the battery terminal is to the end of the filter? I always thought I had put my Renix one back on when I built it, but the block is from the H.O. era. I always seem to have problems finding a filter to fit, well, one that is any good. I always have to order one in, they always have the junk $6 filters, but no good brands. I will look at my filter, it's an Ams Oil filter currently. I didn't know they would rotate, but if I am going that route, I better replace the O-Rings since they are going to leak once I break it loose. What would you do? 1.) Replace the filter housing with the old style Renix? 2.) Rotate the current filter housing? Pro's Cons?
neohic
Option 2… should be able to rotate it away from the started. Be sure to inspect the o rings in there when you have it apart too.
Eagle_SX4
I agree, rotate the adapter. I have looked at some pics of the adapter and it can be clocked in that position or with the filter pointing up with out taking the locating pin out. Just change the o-rings when you pull it off and rotate it. What is the part number of the filter you are currently using?
knever3
It should be an AMSOIL EA042 or a Wix 51381. I will snap a pic later today, If I look up those two filters one is metric, the other standard.
knever3
I indeed have the Wix filter which is metric. So that means I have a Renix filter on an H.O. 90 degree mount. What a mess.
fiatslug87
Are you sure it’s an HO mount? I think HO ones have a hex bolt holding it on and the RENIX uses a torx head. Either way as Eagle_SX4 said you can rotate it. If you want to change the internal tube for an HO so you don’t have to use metric filters i have a couple extras, just message me if interested. Eagle_SX4
If you have a Renix filter adapter it will have a long tube beyond the threads. Both the ones I have replaced looked like this. The after market H.O. ones I replaced them with don't have the extended tube on them
fiatslug87
The OEM HO ones are also short. Cruiser’s swap write-up shows the two sided-by-side.
