Aftermarket fuel pump

Recommended Posts

I never looked at the new units closely. But after getting really intimate with my XJ's unit, I am seeing allllll sorts of stuff thats wrong, more annoying now that I see them but doesnt mess with functionality.

The ground wire for the unit at the sender is usually held in place with a nut.

There should be a retainer to hold the top of the pump but I guess that hose is pulling double duty right there.

And the fact the pump doesnt sit in a cup like factory but I would guess theres a bushing for the pump to sit in?

I dont mean to rip into a sending unit that we asked for for a few years but damn, I hope thats just a picture of the test product and not final.

Nope thats exactly what I have. I bought it probably 2 years ago when they ran production just to have a spare one. I have my factory one and it's in alright shape but I wanted something fresh for this build.

Boostwerks makes a conversion unit for the late model XJs. I have two of them. They suggest the Aeromotive pump. Might be worth looking at their site. I will be using one of them for my LS swap. Also, one for a 4.0L Stroker. Not sure on what I'll do on the Comanche. The Boostwerk does use the stock Fuel Pump frame work. It replaces the top to convert to a return system like the earlier XJs. Also adds in an external pressure regulator. Thats more of an aftermarket fuel rail though.

Looks like the MTS unit for the 91-92 has a top bracket. Might grab that one. I'll be using a programmable fuel gauge so ohm doesn't matter.

I used this sender and adapted the deatschwerks dw200 pump to it. There are some pics on my build thread somewhere. Limey also used the same pump and made a nice custom setup

Bought the 91-92 sender unit and also got a different aeromotive pump. Same one just with a different inlet configuration. Honestly it looks exactly like a mid 90s cherokee pump so I also ordered a cheap factory one to get that special rubber boot it uses. I'm hoping with all these parts it'll be a near factory fit now. We'll see once everything comes in.
