HuntinHopin
As the title states, I’m looking for a set of seatbelts for an 87 with bench seat. My 15 year old wanted a MJ and we finally found him one but it came with no seat belts. What other seat belts will bolt right in if I can’t find an original set? Also looking for visors, ashtray, glove box lid lock, and an oh crap handle. However, obviously seat belts are most important.

The86manche
Most of the parts you need can be found out of a 84-96 cherokee. I think even cherokee seat belts can be made to work
eaglescout526
I know I do have some of this stuff on hand as well.
Eagle_SX4
I have bought some aftermarket seat belts and they work great. Mounting the retractor is the hardest part. You just need to make a bracket with 2 holes to match the original mounting location. See this post for more info. The ones I got were total length of 133" and they are to long. I have seen some that are 110" and would work much better. Here is a link. I will probably buy some of these in the near future. https://www.seatbeltplanet.com/i-30500018-3-point-lap-shoulder-retractable-seat-belt-all-metal-push-button-buckle.html?q= Bonus is they look like the Chrysler era jeep seat belts and are brand new. They have an 89 Comanche, when I was there Friday, it still had seatbelts in it.
gogmorgo
Not sure which seats you have, bench or buckets, cause the thread title says one and the post says the other. You can use the bucket belts with the bench as long as you don’t mind not having a lap belt for the middle seat. The bucket belts are the same as the 4-door XJ belts. The bench seat belts are also the same just with different plastic sleeves to hold them up above the bench, and the added lap belt. The lap belt bolts down with the same bolts as the female ends for driver and passenger belts. I don’t know if you’d be able to use the rear centre lap belt out of the xj or not, never looked too close.

AMC put them on the same bracket for the rear on the XJ. They separated them for the MJ.

Yeah I was thinking there was something preventing that but I parted out my last xj too long ago to remember. But pretty well any generic/universal lap belt should work. HuntinHopin
schardein-Buddy's is where we are headed. They have an MJ and two Cherokees. Hopefully we can find some things. Was the MJ pretty picked over? gogmorgo-thanks for bringing up the mistake in the title. I fixed it. We have a bench seat. Our biggest issues right now are electrical issues. He has headlights, brake lights, and emergency flashers. However, he has no turn signals, tail lights, or dash lights. So far, I have inspected and replaced fuses and cleaned up the ground behind the rear tail light. Also inspected bulbs and bulb housings to make sure they were all good. I switched the flasher relay and the turn signal relay with no change. However, there is quite a bit of play in the flasher relay when either of them are plugged in to that spot. Any suggestions on next step?
Pete M
keep in mind that 84-87 AMC belts don't click into 88+ chrysler belts, so you'll need the complete set of one or the other.

Was the MJ pretty picked over? Pictures here. When I got there, it was missing the tail lights and tail gate. Just about everything else was there. Went back a week later and it was missing a few more things. Most of the interior is still there though. I grabbed the carpet panel from the back of the cab, so the B pillars are already removed (and not damaged), so the seatbelts should be really easy to get to. HuntinHopin
Went today and was able to get just about everything we needed/wanted. The Comanche at Buddys was missing one of the male ends of the seatbelt but we were able to grab one off of a Cherokee. Wrong color but will work for now. We also grabbed an ash tray, glove box lock, oh crap handle, horn, and running light. Now if we could just get the darn lights figured out…to be continued I reckon. He’s chomping at the bits to drive this thing.
