Pulling an engine

Recommended Posts

Drain all engine fluids before pulling engine.

Make sure the harnesses (wiring) are disconnected before pulling engine.

make sure the motor mounts are unbolted

make sure your engine stand bolts are ready to go

take your time pulling the engine, if it's not moving, figure out why, don't just crank it up to see if it "gets past" the thing, find out what "the ting" is

Have towels and bucket handy, it will still drip fluids even after draining them

If your a/c works, don’t crack the lines, just unbolt the compressor and carefully set it off to the side.

X2 on draining all the fluids before pulling. Ensures that in seven years when you’re trying to move all the horded parts you don’t end up with oil pouring out the pcv when you flop the engine on its side in your brand new trailer.

Try taking apart as few things as possible, like take your ac compressor bracket off the engine, as the compressor bolts like to break. Also you can unbolt the alternator and such, take off the header panel, and pull the radiator. It is not worth it to leave it in and pull the engine around it. And you will make a mess so prepare to clean it up. Also have a plan on where to put the engine, they like to tip over and break parts. Finally disconnect the exhaust after the manifold, if you pull the manifolds to pull the engine without them, they get in your way. And remember to take lots of pictures of connectors and such

Thanks for the suggestions, its out now. I unbolted the ac compressor from the bracket and the inside bolt was about impossible to break loose, then I had to get a hammer and drift on the back of the bolt and the fought me all the way out.

Working on pulling mine now!

Going really smooth honestly, but has anyone left the trans/tc in and just put a stand under it for support? I really don't want to drain those fluids and deal with it if I don't have to.

sure. :L:   but getting to the CPS and top bellhousing bolts is a real pain so I drop the trans crossmember first to rotate the assembly down and give access, then lift it back up and bolt it in place and carry on with the engine stuff.
