Clock help

Recommended Posts

Have the nicer quartz clock out of an 86 and want to put it in my 88.  86 had blue connector with 5 wires, 88 had black connector with 4 wires. Found the gojeep page about the clocks and wiring diagrams and it seems I really only need to connect Red, blue, and ground to make it work. I don't need the dim function. Anyone do this swap? Just want to make sure I'm correct in the wires.

I have a DIY page on converting the older style clocks. Every single one I did I have had great success except one member got one from me and the clock grew brighter until the display stopped working which is an interesting fault that I have no idea what caused it. But every clock I tested have worked with no issues.

For anyone who might not know the "why" for this since I don't think the clock thread has been linked yet: the "Quartz" and 1991 clocks have vacuum fluorescent displays which are much more aesthetically pleasing and much easier to read than the LCD clocks of other years.

Here's a Quartz clock out of an '87 (which had the Metri-Pack connector on it already) in my '89:

and here's the 1991 clock, which uses a different connector but also works the same way.

Here is an LCD clock with a fresh bulb in it:
