But it has a shorter shift throw. The shifter seperates in two and the lower part of the shifter is what needs to be matched to the shift tower. You should be able to just find an XJ upper shifter and easily just push it on in the truck. I think that'll net you a physically shorter shifter. Sooooo is your the physically shorter shifter? scaleless
I gotta get some sleep tonight so this will be fairly short, but here's last weekend's work: Flywheel goes on Clutch and pressure plate. Forgot to order some ARP fasteners for it so it just gets standard Grade 8 Here's the transmission on! Yep, I reused the E12 fasteners, I am ready for your rage! Of course this is when I realize the mounting hole for the starter had been horribly crossthreaded. One cheap chyna helicoil tap later, and... A properly helicoiled hole! Now the whole family is together! Nice and steady... This is actually very easy with the leveler attachment! It went in straight, with no dings or scratches to the new paint. Motor bolted in. Some people mentioned that the transmission really didn't line up in the hole nicely when they swapped the AX15 in. They probably had the crossmember in backwards, because this is perfect. I have a TJ clocked transfer case, so it's just about touching the floor. I could probably get away with it as it is, but I was worried that it would collide with the floor whenever the transmission mount flexed. So here it is marked and here comes the BFH: Now it has more than enough room. The ground clearance is much better! I have no clue why this wasn't how it was from the beginning. And here's the manifold in and the fuel rail on loose. I'm getting some genuine 746 injectors in the mail tomorrow or so, so that's next. Just need to finish up the vacuum routing and wiring and it's onto the fuel tank! Also, I managed to crack off the brake warning switch from the distribution block. Anyone know where I can source one without buying a whole new block? I tried to get a few from the junkyard, but they crack off exactly how mine did. Huntr
Damn that looks great! Love how similar our trucks look currently. Wish I was that far along in my engine build though! Quick question for ya while your engine bay is pretty free. Behind the engine block on the passenger side, do you have an oval cutout that goes in behind where the heater core and stuff is? Is there a rubber plug in that hole? Mine is just a gaping hole into the cab of the truck....

This right here: https://www.ebay.com/p/1711252884 Something to note is that my truck has a vertical oval hole, but my parts Cherokee has a horizontal oval hole that is slightly smaller. Don't know if that changed between 87 and 89 or was an automatic/manual difference.

A manual equipped truck should have a plastic plug in said hole. Edit: I guess I'm just too slow to reply. Lol

Must have gotten rid of it after 87?

My 89 manual Cherokee has it, but it's a horizontal and smaller. The plug didn't fit the hole in my 87. I have an 88 Auto, too - I'll check that out when I can to see what the hole looks like. but your auto must have a hole - that's where the TCU wires go through! It's just smaller and rotated 90 degrees. Weird!
scaleless
I should be arrested for abusing Alumi-Blast Got some 746s coming in the mail Monday. I got a new tank, sender, and pump ready to go in the meantime. I forgot to take a picture of the nightmare on the truck right now, but a previous owner rigged in a toggle switch-activated inline pump outside the tank because the in-tank pump wasn't working, apparently. Looks like a disaster.
scaleless
Okay, okay, there's a lot of work that I'm behind on posting about! But here's a little teaser: 20210621_002947_1_1_small.mp4 I forgot to properly adjust the TPS before starting so the idle is poor and it stumbles off idle, but hey, I think that's a great first start! I frankly didn't expect it to start the first time haha. I'll address the TPS and post about all the work I've done shortly.

But not quite yet, it's still running like a disaster. I adjusted the TPS and had a few seconds of perfect idling. After attempting to rev the engine, it stumbled and backfired a few times, and now it's missing on at least two cylinders. I need to check a few things, but it's likely a couple of parts of unknown provenance: the coil and distributor were in a box in the truck when I bought it, and who knows if they work! I lost the CPS and I have a new aftermarket one, as well, and I know that might be an issue. I was also having issues with the injectors, and they may be damaged. Finally on the list is the exhaust manifold is not hooked to anything, and with how close the O2 sensor is to the output, it may be driving the fuel trim very rich, but I wouldn't think that would cause as bad of a miss! I hooked up my timing light just to check for spark really quick, and spark seems to be very irregular on multiple cylinders. Though this light has had problems on very short spark wires previously, so I don't know if I trust that information. Anyways, I'm having fun diagnosing today! scaleless
The problem - or, at least, a problem - is the #3 injector is malfunctioning. Which is somewhat my fault - I'll elaborate more once I post about my fuel rail shenanigans lmao. Now I just have to swap it without coating my freshly-painted engine components with fuel. Again. Its a nice feature to have a switch to kill fuel pump with doors off in the city 👌or just hide a key but i always lose the magnetic hide a key in The mud pits.
