What do you guys use for rust removal? Not just on the truck but anything metal. But also, I have big spots of rust on my truck...not at the rot stage, and want to address this before it turns into rot.

Thanks !!!

Electrolysis or vinegar work best for just metal stuff but vinegar is a bit harsher on the metal vs electrolysis. Could just strip the whole truck and dunk it in a giant MJ shaped tank for electrolysis lol. But what most of us do for rust on the body is just cut out the cancer and put in new metal. Sometimes sanding or wire wheeling the light stuff away isnt bad either.

For body rust it's usually cut and replace but if you're not quite at the rot stage flap discs and/or blasting usually works best.

As for parts, I usually blast them or put them in my phosphoric acid dip tank.

For stuff that's not quite at the pitted stage, Ospho works pretty good. Clean all the loose stuff up with a wire brush, I prefer a cup wheel on my big Skil angle grinder. Lower speed and more weight than a modern 4 1/2 inch. Then paint on Oslo with a brush, let it work it's magic and cure, then a quality primer and paint.

I'll try to post pics, this is very agressive surface rust. Large spots of rust that will eventually turn into full on rot. I just want to stop it before it gets bad.I'm also assking for other metal...lawnmowers etc.

Ospho

This is my frame after being treated with Ospho.

Gray area is bare metal, the white residue gets washed off before primer, us soap and a scotchbrite pad.
