ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Hope I put this in the right topic area. Starting a build thread of my own after purchasing my first Jeep Comanche! I have owned a few XJs in my life and have stalked these forums for years. I finally have a hunk of metal in my front yard and will be posting updates (not so much for others) but for me to track what I’ve done, cost, and pictures (yay, pics!). This site has been so helpful for so many people-myself included. I will try to be as detailed as possible with my posts to help anyone that needs it. I am by no means a mechanic-so also any suggestions, please feel free to comment! edit: it’s an 87. Manual transmission. 2.5L
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Pictures on day of purchase - $1200. Not sure if this was a great price. It ran and was the best I’d come across in the past 5/6 years of looking for one! Even though it moved, still used the car trailer due to a 3/4 hr trip.
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Even came with a little trove of goodies. Not to mention speakers, brakes, and other items in the cab.
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Is that part of a VIN stamped behind the bumper?
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Various trim removal- wheel well stuff and rear right fender flare . 7mm to remove trim behind front bumper and other. 10mm for fender. First task will be to fix up this lovely spot.
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 I 100% have always debadged my cars (this is my 10th?). I will not be putting this back on if anyone is interested. Also cool note- from the post 97 xjs I have owned, I know the keep logo has been a soft sticker like decal. Interesting the pre 97 goes through to the back like this. (97 swap in my future)
jdog Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 looks pretty solid, don't forget to put it in the registry

That’s super interesting to know-thanks! I just assumed most if not all changes happened at 97 (after deep diving into swap threads, lol).
eaglescout526 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Welcome to the colorful history of Renix, AMC, Jeep and Renault. Theres alot to learn and alot of oddities youll find in an MJ.
ERXJ33P Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Headlights on their way from Amazon. I personally love the LED. Also came across an XJ pic and cannot find the blinkers in it for sale-to match. Help?😕 headlights $80 (although the girlfriend and I had a plethora of Amazon gift cards, lol) was going to go to u pull it today for a 97+ front/grill and front fenders but it was crazy cold. Next purchase, for sure. The front end is already off, sooooo.
