yeah mine leaks as well. just keep it about 3/4 full cause I'm to lazy to mess with it. :slap:

Well this turned into an all day job. Got the new o-ring in an then went on to check the wiring on the TPS again since it seemed the engine would stumble occasionally and was very labored under load. Found the wiring issue and decided while I was there to go ahead and delete the C1 connector.  Several hours later it looks like this.

Also looking more and more like I am going to have to re-build the engine. The more I drive it, it has started to smoke and seems to be getting worse.  Jeep Comanche the gift that keeps on giving.

Re-building the engine is going to suck without a garage, guess I’ll have to figure out a way to pull the engine and to get it into my little shop. Or bite the bullet and have someone else do it.

So Little Blue isn’t happy with the C1 delete. Well at least the #5 injector isn’t. REMII is giving me a Open injector on #5. Tested the injector plug with my multi meter and get the same readings as on #3 and 4. So I am thinking it might be the injector it’s self. Going to trace the wires to double check my splices on the C1 delete first.

old trucks are... fun. :(  some days are just less fun than others.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement. For what it’s worth I replaced the injectors with BOSCH 746 a month or so ago when I was redoing the fuel sending unit and pressure regulator, but I guess I could have one that went bad.

So finally did the compression test, not good. All 6 cylinders have extremely low compression (50-60psi).

So I and starting the process to swap in a remanufactured long block and also have the AW4 rebuilt during the swap.

Found a reputable local mechanic that is going to do the work for a reasonable amount. Fingers crossed I’ll have a daily driver in a few weeks depending on parts lead times.

While waiting on the new motor and other parts to arrive I finally got the RedRock 2dr JK side steps mounted and installed. Welded in some 2”x6” flat stock to 4 locations on the pinch seam and fabricated braces out of 1”x1” box steal to attach to the frame.

Drilled into the step inner bar to attach to the 2x6 tabs that are now welded to the pinch seam.

Very solid and hold me jumping up and down.

All the attachment points between the truck and side steps are bolted for easy removal if needed.

Funny you should ask. I have been trying to decide on paint color. I am not a huge fan of this shade of blue/green. This is from the under hood tag. If I am not mistaken paint code is 6YT.

It’s very close to the medium blue metallic.

Finally found its new color today in the spray bomb section at Lowe’s (krylon matte ink pen blue). Just a little test on the header panel (unprepped). Reminds me of some of the old Levi Jeep interior fabrics.

Actually 6YT ought to be your interior trim color and level. Since yours is an 87, it is still AMC so it’s gonna have an AMC color code. It’s one of the two digit codes right next to your interior code. I’m guessing it’s the P3. Would you mind cleaning up the plate a bit?

P1 should be it then. Also better pic of plate.

Scored this H&H shell for Little Blue today. Not Comanche specific, but measurements are 61” x 74.5” should be a good fit and I really like the style. Came off a late 90s SWB Mazda B series truck.

score!  :L:  let us know how well it fits.

Will be a couple of weeks before I get it fitted. Just got word (INKYS) new heart will be here mid next week. Going to let a professional do the surgery and rebuild the AW4 while he is doing the heart transplant. Fingers crossed I’ll have a dependable daily driver by the end of the month.

Picked up the reman longblock today and dropped everything off with the shop that’s doing the swap and trans rebuild. Fingers crossed I’ll be driving it again in a couple weeks with a 4yr unlimited mile warranty on the engine and a 12 month 12k warranty on the transmission.

  • 2 weeks later...

Few more previews of the pieces I’ve have painted. Hoping to get truck back in a week or so and get to work on doors, cab and bed. Will not be a show truck but a decent 20 footer.
