OldSch88L
Some of you may know that over here in Quebec, Canada, Comanches and other vehicles from its era are few and far between because of rust. They're rare on the road and even more in the junkyards, so when I saw a Comanche, an XJ Wagoneer and a '96 XJ, I knew I had to go PRONTO, especially since the Comanche came in friday I think. I was like the 2nd person to get to it (which never happens usually), since it was already missing the cluster, but it was otherwise complete. Pretty sad cause this thing was in perfectly restorable condition and the interior was pristine, no smells, no cracks in the dash or the seat's vinyl section, and no tears in the bench's cloth. I scored a nice set of rear flares, all the window chrome parts which are moldy but otherwise no dings or pitting, a 2.5L Renix ECU, a sweet AMC cassete deck, chrome tailgate handle, a pair of Bosch driving lights with their original covers, but the reflectors will need restoring, a clock, courtesy lights, ashtray ans cigarette lighter lights, rear wiper and defrost switches and lighted panels from an XJ that I might use for fog light switches, factory Comanche jack and tools, two blue door chimes including the weird one with a red wire (?) that came from the XJ Wagoneer, window cranks, a pair of elusive visor clips, a nice set of pillar lights, grab handle screw covers, another wiper fuse or relay, a couple of round screw covers for the interior trim, and an OEM driver's mat, the passenger one was sadly gone. Oh, and I couldn't leave the XJ's deluxe cluster behind, so now that I found one in Km/H, I'll eventually sell the one in MPH that's presently in my Comanche. Some of this stuff will also eventually be for sale. So now, time for pics! I also took a shot of the VIN in case EagleScout wants to do its thing! jdog
Nice score should have grabbed the chrome behind the arm rests and that license plate bracket is the rarer one as it is metal. grab the rear window as well, you never know when you might need it
eaglescout526
Those running boards need to be snagged too! Those are factory accessories and especially since they go to the bed. Ohhh Id love to have those over the ones I have.
jdog
how was the rear bumper? @eaglescout526 its in the registrty for ya assuming its a 86 as i can't pull it
eaglescout526
Lol, I missed the last sentence where he mentions me. If you can go back to that yard and if that MJ has both running boards and the cargo light it is said to havem it would be hell of bonus to your score! The rear bumper was rotten and all twisted up, of course, like every other MJ I saw in junkyards. It's a shame because it was a factory chrome one. For the running boards I had no idea, I thought they were aftermarket! I might go back ans snatch them, but I don't remember exactly what shape they were in. eaglescout526
GT denotes 86 in the last 8 of the VIN. If you look at the running board in the front, youll see a flap, it should have a chrome Jeep embossed in it. Usually the factory ones have those and an end cap to round it off and make it look clean. The after markets do not. Funny history on those is they were optional aftermarket pieces for the Wagoneer and J-trucks but were later sold as official accessories by AMC. schardein
I'm not familiar with the blue chime box with the wire. What's the deal on that part?

Yeah you can find them in XJWs and SJs. Also GM vehicles have them too but I do not know how compatible they are. 1 hour ago, schardein said: I need a LIKE button haha. Does the red wire go to B+? Bat Pos or Ign Pos? Or something else? Whichever one has power. I’ll have to snap a pic of where I plugged mine in at. These boxes are very interesting. They require two power sources. One from the lamp circuit and the other is straight power. I’ll have to play with it more later to confirm some of my thoughts.
schardein
The timing of this is amazing. Recently scored this out of an 87 XJW. I'm out of town, so no way to test or play with it.

Well a spade connector will work, unless someone can find the same replacement clip faster than I can search through the delphi catalog. But those boxes are much much better and more tolerable than the buzzers. Also if you turn off your truck with the lights on and the door is not open, it will chime at you until you turn them off. PS, I plugged mine in right by the right upper flasher relay.

OldSch88L
You guys are pretty much answering all my questions before I ask them haha! I was trying to figure out where that red wire plugged into,as I though it was just a regular blue module when I yanked it out of the wagoneer and only saw after that it had a wire hanging from it! Hope mine works, it looks a bit crusty inside...
schardein
Here is the pinout for both the black and regular blue buzzer boxes. I made this as a reference for bench testing them. I am assuming the XJW blue box is the same as the blue buzzer, except for the extra lead.
eaglescout526
Should be the same testing method as above. I can't imagine those boxes failing too hard but they would have to be delicately taken apart and cleaned if in non operating order.

They weren't in the greatest shape, and the screws were rusted, seized and stripped. I thought about drilling the screw heads off but I would probably have damaged the tail lights even more

OldSch88L
Couple of updates: I tried the XJW chime and it works, although it sounds so weak I can barely hear it. Any ideas? Secondly, I went back to the yard; to those who wondered why I didn't take the tail lights or rear bumper, I got some pics to show why The only good chrome left was the armrest trims, otherwise the inside and outsidle door handles had peeling chrome. I also managed to remove the bed topper by myself to find the elusive cargo light!!! But sadly, not the switch as the cluster, cluster trim and switchwork were gone from the start. I also took the front metal license frame per your recommendations, the running boards, another set of the rare sunvisor clips and finally, two good-ish condition fuse panels. Also, there was some kind of counter or meter hanging below the steering column; anyone wants to take a guess as to what it is?
