Piilgrim82
Hi guys, Since I bought my MJ a couple years ago the cruise control hasn't worked. I have a long road trip coming up where it would really save my knees, so I'm hoping to get it working. Took a peak at it yesterday and there appears to be vacuum pressure as when I pulled the small vacuum line that runs out of the canister it feeds into (not the one in the bumper) I heard the pressure release. So I decided to take a look at the wiring under the dash and right away noticed a stray broken pink wire, which appears to connect to the brake switch..here's a photo if anyone can confirm that's where it goes. Aside from that, can anyone give some advice on how to troubleshoot this? I try and fix most things by youtube videos but couldn't find much in this. Dzimm
I'm assuming you are using an iPhone to upload the picture? What you've attached is in a high efficiency file format (.heic) that iPhones now use by default that won't open natively for anyone on an Android phone or windows computer. I can't get on the computer right now so I can't convert and reupload, can you or someone else please convert it and reupload so we can all see the image? eaglescout526
So your brake switch should have two sets of prongs. One for the main harness and one for cruise control. I think the pink wire is for the cruise control side, as long as you still have the old Renix set up. As Dzimm said about the photo thing, if you are using iphone, how are you uploading your pictures? Usually i don't have an issue when I'm actually looking at CC under Safari. eaglescout526
Now that the photo has been loaded, yes thats entirely for cruise control and is needed to operate.
Piilgrim82
Sorry about the photo trouble fellas, I'll try uploading directly from my cell on safari next time! (I've been uploading them using my computer.) I tried connecting it and still didn't have any luck, any advice where to check next? Thanks for the help! Let's not bring that negativity to @Piilgrim82's MJ. I have faith his issue will be resolved... Lol.

87MJTIM
Fix the pink wire to that connector. Attach the connector to the brake switch on the brake pedal. Match pink to pink. As for testing your cruise control, there is a device that test the wiring and vacuum unit, AM PC-1-R. However, the 88 Electric Manual has steps you can perform that will test the wiring with a DVOM. Download the 88 Manual in the DIY section on CC and perform those tests. My experience, though, is it is the yellow controller box that has gone bad. You will need to search for a replacement, since you cannot purchase new.
