TheJeepNut
Under the front of the MJ is this splashguard. I'd just toss it on a 4x4 but if I was gonna replace one.... What material can you think of that would be good? I've looked online for fibrous mats but not really finding anything thick and tear resistant. It seems to be to be like roofing paper only 20 layers thick. Ideas? Needs to be heat, wind, rain, snow, salt, repellent for #24.
Strokermjcomanche
Maybe bed mat or conveyor belt
schardein
I was asking the same question a while back. Here is the thread:
ghetdjc320
I would think tar paper would be pretty similar. It’s for roofing but it’s thick stuff about 1/8” - 3/16” or so
fiatslug87
Masticated rubber https://www.ebay.com/itm/1936-1958-Pontiac-thick-masticated-rubber-sheet-1-8-C70064545/333642738307?hash=item4daea82a83:g:qjkAAOSwTglYmXFB
Minuit
I got a long, wide piece of conveyor belt from a facility I did some work for last year. I ended up cutting it up to make a mat for my workbench, but thinking about it that stuff would have made a perfect engine splash shield.
boxyjeep
How much do you think this helps with keeping the engine bay clean? I've always just ripped these off (as they typically just get totally covered in leaky oil).
TheJeepNut
I guess I think that they must help if only because I'm SURE AMC (or ChryCo) would have deleted the heck out of them to save $1 per unit if it really wasn't needed to help keep electronics under the bonnet dry. After I dump all this money in this thing it had better NOT leak oil...at least not for the first 5000 miles.... Basically just sheets of compressed rubber trash.
