j_gevans
My '88 MJ's speedometer will fluctuate up to +/- 5 MPH at lower speeds (usually below 25) but doesn't at higher speeds. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before and might have any idea what could be causing it to do so or what could fix it. Thanks for any help. Currently working on restoring my first MJ and am sure this will be the first of many questions to come.
Strokermjcomanche
The cable is probably sticking a bit, probably need to lube the cable or replace it

I had the same issue before I replaced my cable. Now smooth as a babys bottom.

JMO413
I would also add to double check the routing. Make sure there's no sharp bends and that it is secure.

Drahcir495
I have a similar but stranger issue and here is what kinda worked for my 1990. I lube the cable and did not help. Checked the Speedo cable routing and that was fine. I backed off the connection to the transfercase and that definitely helped. Still only accurate up to 35 mpg with a little fluctuations until 40. boxyjeep
New cable is $20. Just get it and replace it. Be prepared--it's a b*@ch to swap it out.
