After a bath and allot of sanding they needed a repaint. Black repainted and a couple coats of clear coat. Hopefully it will quit raining someday and I can put them in. I always thought the orange marker lights looked out of place. Installed some clear ones today and I like them. They are DEPO brand and fit nicely. JMO413 Posted June 11, 2019 Author Share Posted June 11, 2019 So I have been collecting parts again. I am off this week for my birthday and 20 year work anniversary. With that said I have some truck time. My rear manifold stud was broken and I was fairly confident the manifold was cracked. When I got the truck the motor mounts were shot. Knowing that and needing to replace the exhaust. The old muffler and tailpipe had holes and was undersized. The tailpipe was under 2" OD. The head pipe was still factory with the crush. No cat just a piece of random pipe to boot. I then came to the conclusion a HO manifold was cheaper in the long run. So I started to collect. My plan is just to delete the EGR. I love in Iowa and they're is no inspection for anything. EGR delete. Route 66 for the plate and Doorman 090-061 for the pipe hole. Plate and plug. The HO manifold had the bellows in it. Hoping that and a piece of flex pipe and it will live a while. These bolts suck! This could have sucked pretty bad. First time no go. Second time winner! The manifold is cracked and the gasket is blown thought on number 6. This crack goes around over half. You can barely see this one is about a quarter way around. Renix/HO Renix on top HO on bottom. JMO413 Posted June 12, 2019 Author Share Posted June 12, 2019 The exhaust ports match perfectly. Tailpipe is definitely going to be in a different location. HO head pipe to match the manifold. Going to see what a Thrush welded sounds like. Flex pipe where my missing cat should be. This flange whelded to the flex pipe. It matches perfectly with the head pipe. Still uses the factory gasket, wanted it to separate. Hopefully this will extended the manifolds life. You do have to grind a little off the edges of the intake for it to fit. Just round of the bottom corners. Both sides. It does fit!! All on and torqued! I wasn't sure what torque sequence. HO or renix. I went renix first and then double checked with the HO pattern. I had already done the valve cover, distributor gasket, and oil filter adapter o-rings. And still had an oil leak. Pretty sure the oil pan gasket was leaking. It came out like this, chunks missing. I didn't feel like leaving it to chance so I did the rear main also. And I can't leave good enough alone so. I was pleasantly surprised it came right out. The best part right back in. I could move the timing chain way way too much. New one will be here tomorrow. Side note. You can reach all the manifold bolts except the back stud with this. Steelman Pro swivel extension. I already did the drivers floor board so now the passenger side. Yep there's a little hole there. Out with the old in with the new. Seam sealer applied. Waiting for it to dry. JMO413 Posted June 14, 2019 Author Share Posted June 14, 2019 Finally got a timing set. New timing cover the old one cracked when I installed the crank seal. New balancer old one was falling apart. Installed the oil pan gasket. Hopefully no more leaks. Got the new head pipe installed. Wiring definitely reached. The O2 sensor is definitely easier to reach now. Factory flange to flex pipe. Thrush welded muffler. Walker tail pipe. And she runs again! Got the floor pan seam sealer and painted. Installed sound deadener pad and then heat pad. Now I just have to install the interior. JMO413 Posted July 6, 2019 Author Share Posted July 6, 2019 My steering wheel cover was falling apart pretty bad. So I finally ordered a new sew on one. Not sure how long it had been on. It had definitely seen better days. I was pleasantly surprised the steering wheel still looks brand new. I'm guessing I can thank the old trashed cover for that. Amazon has everything! $13 what a deal. This definitely takes some time and patience. Looks like new again! Band-Aids are required so the thread doesn't cut into your hands. Thanks again yellaheep for the horn buttons and cables. Rear Jeep/AMC mudflaps and 2 sets of Jeep front flaps. Hood relase cables are still available OEM but the pull handle has a car on it. JMO413 Posted July 7, 2019 Author Share Posted July 7, 2019 Decided it was time to install the door seals I had ordered a while back. They are Fairchild from Rock Auto. They fit descent, the doors are super tight now. While I had the interior out to do the weather strips I installed sound and heat mat on the roof. I also installed sound mat on the back wall of the cab. The weather strips were $36 for both doors. They installed nice and seen decently made. They look much better than the old torn ones. Hopefully it helps keep the rain out also. One spot that actually isn't all rusty! The spots are just the backing from the headliner. Sounds pad installed. Used Noico sound pad and roller. It seems very nice and sticky! Heat mat also from Noico. Both were from Amazon. Only did sound mat on the back wall of the cab. Used spray on bed liner on the headliner. It was already partially spray painted and the cloth was gone. It's now not flaking off but a new one is definitely on the list of to do some day. I kept looking and found a cheaper option still from Chrysler. The white ones are $2 each. The black ones are what the parts catalog shows. They are identical to each other except color. I also replaced the front turn signal housings. The old ones were cracked and had over spray on them. Hard to tell in the pictures but it looks much better!
