After a bath and allot of sanding they needed a repaint.

IMG_20190528_182343708.jpg.c907e1a04e38b2606d7fac20c7a582c9.jpg

Black repainted and a couple coats of clear coat. Hopefully it will quit raining someday and I can put them in.

Installed the painted taillights today.

You can't see the pieces missing out of these in the picture.

IMG_20190529_190237776.jpg.a3e024a53c129417f413c3afae79fbe1.jpg

These sure do look better!

IMG_20190529_190253562.jpg.39203e885857ce9e85621d925caaa66a.jpg

I always thought the orange marker lights looked out of place.

IMG_20190529_191805273.jpg.3b0813c0a3d6668066c470953acc008b.jpg

Installed some clear ones today and I like them. They are DEPO brand and fit nicely. I had the crown ones and they fit so bad I didn't install them. These are very nice and fit good. The wonderful world of eBay $20. IMG_20190529_191605682.jpg.c85f4450a67f6471af9b4411d3e9b3b1.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

So I have been collecting parts again. I am off this week for my birthday and 20 year work anniversary. With that said I have some truck time.

My rear manifold stud was broken and I was fairly confident the manifold was cracked. When I got the truck the motor mounts were shot. Knowing that and needing to replace the exhaust. The old muffler and tailpipe had holes and was undersized. The tailpipe was under 2" OD. The head pipe was still factory with the crush. No cat just a piece of random pipe to boot.

I then came to the conclusion a HO manifold was cheaper in the long run. So I started to collect. My plan is just to delete the EGR. I love in Iowa and they're is no inspection for anything.

IMG_20190610_121710025.jpg.71172519a8656a3544eb5d75a19da805.jpg

EGR delete. Route 66 for the plate and Doorman 090-061 for the pipe hole.

IMG_20190611_145901205.jpg.ef82b6a41945499794191e37350936c9.jpgPlate and plug.

The HO manifold had the bellows in it. Hoping that and a piece of flex pipe and it will live a while.

These bolts suck!

IMG_20190610_113318421.jpg.2f140bb3a8d340bfa948cf77ead5f094.jpg

This could have sucked pretty bad.

First time no go. Second time winner!IMG_20190610_114452643.jpg.7fa2f26234c3b76147667ff9f8a34bcf.jpg

The manifold is cracked and the gasket is blown thought on number 6.

This crack goes around over half.

IMG_20190611_153328402.jpg.933014b25b1d8655c7624d7e19bf5ef3.jpg

You can barely see this one is about a quarter way around.

The exhaust ports match perfectly.

IMG_20190611_180720476.jpg.1798532208af2002ec6c712a2a0e84f6.jpg

Tailpipe is definitely going to be in a different location.

IMG_20190611_175729159.jpg.8af90b2bce8cf15953be70a656abb263.jpg

HO head pipe to match the manifold.

Going to see what a Thrush welded sounds like.

Flex pipe where my missing cat should be.

IMG_20190525_162513286.jpg.2fea9ce1138814ed16b62bff5ec80dc2.jpg

This flange whelded to the flex pipe. It matches perfectly with the head pipe. Still uses the factory gasket, wanted it to separate.

IMG_20190611_190011447.jpg.a3aabbd04fc3dd13df97e61ca2261e16.jpg

Hopefully this will extended the manifolds life.

You do have to grind a little off the edges of the intake for it to fit.

Both sides.

It does fit!! All on and torqued! I wasn't sure what torque sequence. HO or renix. I went renix first and then double checked with the HO pattern.

While I was at it I decided I was done with my oil leak. I had already done the valve cover, distributor gasket, and oil filter adapter o-rings. And still had an oil leak.

IMG_20190611_191432804.jpg.bcec8d8a6655b55a235fc57f554b0dea.jpg

Pretty sure the oil pan gasket was leaking. It came out like this, chunks missing.

IMG_20190611_180837773.jpg.33a2abacf2e512f53a0e553335a673bd.jpg

I didn't feel like leaving it to chance so I did the rear main also. And I can't leave good enough alone so. I was pleasantly surprised it came right out. The best part right back in.

I could move the timing chain way way too much. New one will be here tomorrow.

Side note. You can reach all the manifold bolts except the back stud with this.IMG_20190611_191321193.jpg.2902dba5fa33052053a6c247d8ff9db3.jpg

My hats off to you sir. You’ve done some serious work to keep an old truck on the road and running good. I’m gonna have to do a rear main and oil pan gasket on mine soon and I’m dreading it haha.

Thank you. I think it was the Jeep God's knowing I would bring her back too life. I have a week spot for black Jeeps. The gray buckets, full console, full cluster, 4.0 5 speed signed the deal.

Still waiting on a timing chain. The first one had a used cam gear in it. So why not start another project. I already did the drivers floor board so now the passenger side.

IMG_20190612_115523644.jpg.d1cfae7cf22d2a276d53c569596cab78.jpg

Yep there's a little hole there.

Seam sealer applied. Waiting for it to dry. Going to clean the surface rust off the rest and POR 15 it is. Then truck bed liner, sounds mat, & heat mat. Not a bad afternoon!

My steering wheel cover was falling apart pretty bad. So I finally ordered a new sew on one. IMG_20190616_180532991.jpg.92b796d64720b42746442243756fab83.jpg

Not sure how long it had been on. It had definitely seen better days.

IMG_20190616_181033645.jpg.1af8583d12adea384b5438d7d1673632.jpg

I was pleasantly surprised the steering wheel still looks brand new. I'm guessing I can thank the old trashed cover for that.

Decided it was time to install the door seals I had ordered a while back. They are Fairchild from Rock Auto. They fit descent, the doors are super tight now. While I had the interior out to do the weather strips I installed sound and heat mat on the roof. I also installed sound mat on the back wall of the cab.

IMG_20190613_123447408.jpg.582b9c1409c94257b998aa8aa31464f2.jpg

The weather strips were $36 for both doors. They installed nice and seen decently made.

IMG_20190706_205901660.jpg.44423a409fbe004e6d3c56788e753d90.jpg

They look much better than the old torn ones. Hopefully it helps keep the rain out also.

IMG_20190706_153857857.jpg.819eb7b99292b5af236a80b149709e41.jpg

One spot that actually isn't all rusty! The spots are just the backing from the headliner.

IMG_20190706_182639812.jpg.58f9134c3301ef812db9553b099aa130.jpg

Sounds pad installed. Used Noico sound pad and roller. It seems very nice and sticky!

IMG_20190706_183547333.jpg.791bd5addddaf9f9115105168bec15eb.jpg

Heat mat also from Noico. Both were from Amazon.

IMG_20190706_185237073.jpg.421dc9997aba3287930af2fe04966995.jpg

Only did sound mat on the back wall of the cab.

IMG_20190706_210748742.jpg.4de770b7d733039ddbbe104dce382173.jpg

Used spray on bed liner on the headliner. It was already partially spray painted and the cloth was gone. It's now not flaking off but a new one is definitely on the list of to do some day. Just took the truck for a drive and the noise reduction was definitely noticable.

Ordered some new trim retainers for my back panel. Mopar still had them and they are kinda pricey. I kept looking and found a cheaper option still from Chrysler.

IMG_20190713_134630314.jpg.eb5363aa19798ddc37ac1762b16be112.jpg

The white ones are $2 each. The black ones are what the parts catalog shows. They are identical to each other except color.

IMG_20190713_135541250.jpg.170c5b0ca0c80383af79679380c8ac5d.jpg

I also replaced the front turn signal housings. The old ones were cracked and had over spray on them.

fyi, Lowes has a pretty good selection of "automotive fasteners" in the section that has screws, washers, etc in those pull out drawers. Plastic "push pins" like these and metal clip screw fasteners etc.

So does Menards. These are really skinny where the Christmas tree meets the button head. They are definitely speciality fasteners.
