water pump 2000+

Recommended Posts

this is from a pdf about the 4.0 histoty and specs...

"In 2000 a distributorless coil-on-plug ignition system was installed, intake and exhaust
manifolds were revised, and a more efficient water pump was included."

so, what`s the difference between this more efficient pump and the others? can it be used in the earlier block?

Looks like the 91-01 carried the same water pump p/n, but for the 90 and below Renix the p/n is different. What's the difference?   :dunno:

It there an offset difference? I think there are two p/n  for water pumps for each year. One is wider than the other, and takes a different pulley. I could be wrong. The 99-06 WJ 4.0L has a plastic impellor. It is a spiral vane as I remember. Also has an extra bolt hole.

I should have been more clear. 91-01 4.0 MJ/XJ's all carry p/n 4626215, with AB, AC, etc. suffixes added as the years go up. I was told by an old Mopar parts guy that as long as the basic p/n is the same, they will all fit the 91-01 4.0 XJ/MJ models. The AB, AC, etc. suffixes usually indicate a design change or mod, like an improved impeller. Also WJ's, ZJ's, YJ's etc. sometimes use different belt mounting configurations, so the offsets and even pump rotation may be different in some cases.

93-98 ZJ pump is same as 91-98 Wrangler pump, it has a longer shaft so that the bearings can be farther apart to support the shaft because of the fan being mounted on it.

I don’t know if the 99-04 WJ is the same as the 99-06 TJ.

If you use that pump do you need the matching pulley then?  I'd assume so at least...  Will the belt offset be correct for an XJ/MJ 4.0 if you do use the pulley it comes with?
