WahooSteeler Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Need to do a basic tune-up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc. which looks like it will run $60-75. Being that I am trying to get this thing road worthy asap for my son when he gets his license in 10 days, I may take it to a shop to do this as time is very limited for me. What amount of labor time should a good mechanic need to do this? I tried to look up what dealer "book time" is but couldn't find anything. Called the dealership and that was a waste of time. Have a local shop I would use, just trying to get an idea on what to expect, or look out for! Thanks...........
Dzimm Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 General tuneup usually runs a little under $100 to do yourself. I'd expect at least double that for a shop to do it if not more. What about your son? Now is a good time for him to learn the basics of his new vehicle.
ComancheKid45 Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Yep, with time set aside for teaching it shouldn't take but and hour or so.
DirtyComanche Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I'm guessing book time would be in the 1.5hr range. So whatever shop rate x 1.5 is, and add other BS charges, tax, and marked up cost of parts. I'd not be surprised if I wound up paying $350-400... It should be less in the US though, maybe $100 for parts, $120 labour, $10 shop supplies, tax at %? $240 maybe? I'd say you should do it yourself/with him.
Crash Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Find out if there is a CC or Naxja member near you that will work for food, beer, little cash, etc.
cody4359 Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 X2 make him do it. buy a Chiltons if he can't figure out lefty loosey right tighty. it's an old jeep, gonna have to break out the tools often or learn that jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket, and in that case if you have to ask the internet how much a tuneup cost from people who don't live in your area, that's off to a bad startSent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
