FarmerBrown5
Hello all, Now that harvest is in the books I have finally had some time to tinker with the '92. It was in need of an oil change so I thought it would be a good time to replace the O-rings in the oil filter adapter as well. I had bought rings awhile back but never got around to the job. The rings I ordered were for late model XJ. Plan to run to Napa here shortly and get the correct rings from them. My concern here is the adapter.... This is the end where the filter connects. Can anyone guess why this end is boogered? Does not affect anything that I know of.
HOrnbrod
No idea how that happened. :dunno:
cruiser54
That looks like a Renix nipple. What part number oil filter did it have on it?
Eagle
Can anyone guess why this end is boogered? I can guess. Dunno if my guess is correct, but here goes: Some shops crank the oil filter on much too tight. Getting it off can be a real problem, and some people have been known to hammer a long screwdriver through the filter body to use as a lever. Possibly a screwdriver hammerer drove the tip of the screwdriver into the tip of the filter nozzle.
HOrnbrod
^^ That's a good guess.
Minuit
That's what I was going to say. An angry gorilla using the screwdriver "trick" would cause that kind of damage easily. Mine's like that in a few different places. Wasn't me that did it :dunno:
cruiser54
Very good guess.
FarmerBrown5
Like i said, it has not altered anything, but wondered how it could have happened. I bought the truck 3 years ago. can't remember what filter was on it when I bought it, but i only use Napa Gold 1085 filters. This screwdriver trick would make sense. I could not figure out what could have caused this to an area that really doesnt see any abuse. I was puzzled is all and thought someone may have a theory. Anyway, everything is back together and hopefully no more leaky adapter.
Virginia
Morning. I want to change the O rings on my 91 oil filter adapter but keep seeing comments on autozone, etc. that the O rings in their packets aren't all the right size. How do I make sure I get the right size?

Virginia
After 2 trips to autozone and 3 trips to O'Reilly, I believe I have it. I would assume that if any of the o rings were incorrect I would have a very obvious leak once I started the engine. I didn't see any and I let it run for quite a while. I also noticed that maybe my oil pressure was better but that could be my imagination. It was 40 on initial crank with a cold engine.
