mikekaz1
To my knowledge the whole window need to come out to replace the middle.
Troubador530
I was afraid of that. I have never done that before.
mikekaz1
nor have I, you could always have a local glass company come and install it for you, of course for a nominal fee tho.. as I'm 99% sure the rear window is glued in
gitslashgin
I thought it was rope in rubber seal? Correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks, Mike
jimoshel
There are many types of sliding rear windows. I have only two. The one where the glass is flat, goes inside. the other is where the glass fits aboout 1 inch outside of the frame. The inside glass must be femoved. The other one can be fixed in the window. without removing the glass.

DirtyComanche
The 3 piece/slider windows I have all seen are glued in. But I'm sure there's more than one style. I absolutely hate everything to do with glass and would pay to have it done. Granted, I did manage to cut the windshield out of my parts Dodge Ram and install it in the other one without breaking it. Troubador530
I just know that i will break the window taking it out. So i think that i will let a professional handle it. I'm just excited that i even found what i needed in a pick n pull for $5! Plus a headliner board, interior cab lights, and a perfect tailgate thats even the right color. Whiz
I considering resealing my rear window as well. I called several auto glass places and non of them want to touch it unless I am installing a New window. Same for my windshield that also needs to be resealed, but it isnt cracked or broken. gogmorgo
Most places likely don't want to take on the risk of breaking the window while removing it... they can be right buggers sometimes, and any good business operator would feel obligated to pay for the replacement window themselves. Not worth it to them. But in the case of the windshield, even if it's not cracked or broken, you'll notice a difference. If it's original it's probably pitted to hell, especially if it's seen use on gravel or somewhere they sand the roads. At work the trucks see probably 50% of their miles on gravel, and life expectancy of a windshield is around 40,000 miles. The ones that go 50k or 60k are just about impossible to see through when the sun's shining.
DirtyComanche
I had a local place pull a rear window for me. The had no qualms, even when I told them it wasn't exactly something that could be replaced. Look for a glass shop that's run by a bunch of greasy old chain smokers, they're your guys. Whiz
LOL greasy old chain smokers :rotf: I am going to have my Windshield replaced, but wanting to find a place that will re-seal the rear at the same time without replacing since I want to keep the OEM slider I have. For about 24hrs I was thinking I would just do the rear myself, but other comments I have read talked me out of it.
87Warrior
The rear slider isn't too difficult too remove, it just takes some time. I pulled a good 3 piece slider out of a parts truck to use for my '92. The window is pretty basic. Two small frames holding the middle glass in place. Everything is glued into place with the same glue that holds the windshield in place. The windshield place had no problem installing the used slider on my freshly painted truck. Whiz
So I bought one of the CRL rear sliders. I called a Mobile window shop to install, who agreed they would install the rear window but would not have any warranty. Deal!! So they guy showed up last week. Looked at my rear window and the new one in the box, and said I am not even messing with that. Refused to do it. He talked to be for a good 30 mins, telling me how CRL windows suck and they never fit like they should. I explained that I had few options for rear windows. In the end, he said if I take out the rear window, clean it all up (removed adhesive), make sure new window sits flush. Then he would install it.

The shop I got mine from charged me $200 for the glass and install with 6 months warranty...
