89 MJ - Refreshing a Beater

I sold the XJ and ordered new weatherstripping for the Comanche. Once I install that, it's finally time for window tint to keep the cab cooler. Gotta get cracking on the D30 regear.

I haven't decided yet. SC law is 27%, so probably as close as possible to that for heat reasons. If I find the right shop that carries like 80%, I might be tempted to tint the windshield as well.

it's certainly not the opinion of everyone that's done it, but I have several friends that tinted the windshield and they all regretted it.   nighttime driving suuuuuuuuuucks.

Well, I guess it's been a year. Not much has changed on the ol MJ. I went through a period of wanting to sell it to buy a crew cab truck, but then I found a really good deal on a 2012 F150 in Alabama. Drive it home just fine and then a week later it started misfiring at cold idle. Apparently, Ford had a batch of bad intake valves in the 2011-13 5.0s that are made too soft and hammer themselves flat over time. So I pulled the engine and did a valve job, new intake valves, timing chains, oil pump, full reseal. It should be good to go for another while. 

 

I've mainly been busy with projects around the house, like building my kids the playset in the background of the F150 picture. Put the MJ to work hauling some of the wood, although I got most of it delivered.

The MJ has been sitting as I was busy working on selling some of my other vehicles. I did finally make time to regear and install the Spartan Helical LSD in the front D30 last weekend. Things went together pretty well.
