Strokermjcomanche
I recently purchased a set of 4 "mopar" shocks for my 99 Cherokee and they ended up Monroe Matic shocks in the box . When you order a mopar part shouldn't it be what the vehicle was built with at the factory ? The shocks look nothing like the originals do . Thanks in advance . johnj92131
You have discovered one of the "benefits" of global sourcing. Companies will do what they need to do to make a buck in the name of efficiency. There is an old Latin saying - Let the buyer beware.
HOrnbrod
Where did you get these "Mopar" parts? Online or from the dealer?

Strokermjcomanche
eBay . The seller listed them as NOS/ OEM originals and that just isn't the case , on that premise alone I should be able to return them to him . I still need shocks though and would like to pursue the true mopar route . I would say I have a decent amount of NOS parts that I've bought/ accumulated over the years and this is the first time I've ran into this issue . For example : when I buy a mopar belt or ignition wires , it's a mopar belt and wires . Or the fact that you bought the Mopar oil pressure sender and it didn't arrive as a Airtex in the box . HOrnbrod
I think the seller pulled a switch-a-roo Adam. Is the Mopar p/n stamped anywhere on the shock body? It should be, as you know. I'd send the seller an email - if no response report the seller.
Strokermjcomanche
I thought he screwed me too but the boxes were never opened / tampered with .

HOrnbrod
I'd send the seller an email and ask WTF. Maybe there's an explanation we don't know about. For sure I've never seen aftermarket parts in a sealed Mopar box before. Does the Ebay seller have a good rep? Good feedback? A lot of dealership parts departments sell on Ebay too. One of those? Send me a PM with the seller's ID when you get a chance...........
Strokermjcomanche
Well here's the explanation of what happened . The actual factory numbers have been discontinued (4897413ab/ 52087777 ). Chrysler has a Vline brand and they shoved random aftermarket shocks ( in this case Monroe ) in the boxes calling them mopar , very misleading and wrong in my opinion . I called the complaint hotline and expressed my concerns about how unethical this all seems. If I put a Timex watch in a Rolex box , is it a Rolex ? Is it worth a Rolex ? Looks like the seller will be getting the shocks back and I'm back to the drawing board .
Strokermjcomanche
I received a call back from the Chrysler complaint hotline . Lol what a joke !!! They told me that they were going to do an internal review to see if anything needed to be changed and to see what they could do to help me out . Well the matter of fact is : There is no Mopar shocks available !! Duh How are you going to help ? I asked the lady if anything would be done , she strongly implied that nothing would be done . Way to go Chrysler. I guess I learned that as long as it's in a certain box , you can call it whatever you want .
DirtyComanche
That's an extremely common practice for OEMs to continue to provide support for obsolete equipment, as it is not practical for them to continue to manufacture many parts when the market is so limited. Honestly if they were NOS, you probably would not want them as the seal materials most likely would have deteriorated by now and they would not likely last long. I'd buy Fox, Bilstein, KYB, in that order (and wallet based at that) and not look back...
MJCARENA
I bought a set of chrome headlight bezels fro Quadratech. Listed as OEM parts. Got cheap china knockoffs. Bad chrome and flimsy plastic. Called them on this and they said they have the license to reproduce the parts and they can cal them OEM. Sent the crap back.

On top of this the "factory MOPAR" shocks very well may have been produced by Monroe in the first place... How many parts do you think AC Delco, MotorCraft, MOPAR, etc. actually make? Not many if any at all (especially nowadays).
Rockfrog
For what it's worth I have Monroe's on my MJ, happy enough with them. Sensa-tracs in the front, load levellers in the back. Used to have the blue cans on the XJ ... Seemed fine for a low cost shock. Rode way better than the "expensive" shock I replaced them with.
