So I was an idiot today...  I had the vehicle running and heard a slight miss and saw a plug wire that was not all the way pressed on.  So I went and grabbed the rubber portion of the plug and went to push it on.  It gave me a good shock.  I know after the coil it's in the thousands of volts, so it somewhat scared me.

This was a firs to me.

First, the plugs were somewhat new, this year, but there is already some cracking on the wires, I plan to get a new set, should you still get shocked if the rubber is in good shape?

How dangerous was the shock I just got?  Could have have hurt me badly, like stopped my heart or anything?  I assume if i feel fine tonight all is well.

I've felt that jolt from a cracked plug wire before.

You'll be fine, if electricity was going to stop your heart you'd know it by now.

I would replace the wires if they're cracked though.

Strokermjcomanche is correct. For comparison: a taser is 50,000 volts and .09 amps...they (normally) don't cause any serious harm to folks but it is quite an experience. A household electrical socket is 120 volts and varies between 15 and 20 amps.

A common electrical socket is more likely to kill you because of the amps.

...or not :ack:

That is ... if it stopped your heart ... you wouldn't know it!  I was shocked by plug wires, once.  It is  a very short education.  I have not touched a plug wire while cranking OR running since then ... 40 years ago.

Anyone who has been messing with cars (and trucks) for more than a couple of years has probably done that at least once. You lived through it, and now you know not to do it again. Happy New Year!

Glad to here it happens to others...

The wires were new, from 2 months ago when I did a tune up, I can already see cracking on them and they don't seat well, they were whatever was in stock at the advance auto, so probably cheap...

I ordered up some higher quality factory wires from amazon
