jayzauto
How hard would it be to swap a gm 2.8 outta a Comanche and put in a fuel injected 4.

gogmorgo
It's been done. Google should pull up a few write-ups. It's the same as doing it in an XJ. The firewall and radiator supports will need modification.

Pete M
an easier swap is the 3.4 from a camaro/firebird. it reuses all your exhaust/accessories/radiator/etc but is a superior engine inside (better quality parts, better oiling passages, better everything). plus the fuel injection system is pretty much stand-alone and can be swapped into the MJ fairly easily.

Wait, what am I thinking, pretty much everything does.

Pete M
there's certainly more poser to be had, especially if you bring over the EFI. :D just don't reuse the stock MJ carb if possible. that thing just plain sucks.

A-man930
+1 on the 3.4 swap. The truck variant of the 2.8 is pretty well the exception to an otherwise excellent engine series. An Fbody 3.4 should be cheap and easy to find and would be sooooo much easier than a 4.0. Plus if you're feeling froggy you could grab the aluminum heads off a later GrandAm and pick up some nice gains.

Yes, lots of cool high tech upgrades from the factory on later versions of that 3.4 family. The 4.0 basically stopped with the introduction in 1991 of the High Output 4.
