2 junk rustys steering stabilizers....

Recommended Posts

so when i bought my 4.5" lift for my truck it came with the "race series" steering stabilizer.

and within about 500 miles or so it did this...

ball came out of the socket

i drove it that way for a while.

then i called and got a replacement.

put it on right before i took my truck to paint.

we winched it in and out of the garage a couple times and onto the trailer then off the trailer and around the painter's.

then, with literally less than 1 mile on it, this happened again..

think ill call rustys and see if i can just get my money back to buy another brand...

has this happened to anybody else? or am i doing something wrong?

Something wrong? Yes ... you're buying Rusty's junk.

I made the mistake of buying a Rusty's adjustable track bar. I've had the old factory track bars, the ones with no grease fitting on the frame end TRE, last over 100,000 miles. The Rusty's adjustable lasted less than 10,000. Fortunately, on an adjustable the TRE is replaceable. One of my friends in NAXJA NAC, however, had the threaded insert at the upper end of the bar rip out of the tube. You can't fix that with a new TRE from NAPA.

I really don't understand how Rusty's stays in business -- or how he sleeps at night.

Even a Zone one is better than that junk, have a Zone on my XJ and I think an RV on the MJ (came with a front axle).

My dealings with Rusty's has been similar to Eagle, the first Trac bar on my XJ was a Rusty's. Pure junk, even harder to get the correct bushing to fix mine. Ended up scrapping the damn thing.

Been talking to Rusty's thru email. They can't give me my money back. They could either warranty it out again or give me their more expensive monotube stabilizer or store credit. I went for the monotube one. I don't know if I'll use it though.

They started to blame it on me putting it together wrong and forgetting the spacer they provide. I sent a picture of how I had it with the spacer in correctly. He said that other people have forgotten it and when they turn it binds and pops out. Then later he said not many people have had problems...uh..what?! Then I told him if people are putting it together wrong or forgetting the spacer then instructions should be provided!

So we'll see what I get out of it and when...

If their monotube SS is like what is shown on their site, I would say it will definitely be an improvement. And is has proper bushings on both sides.

Hope they are not charging you for the more expensive one though.

Learn by your first mistake:  Don't get another Crusty's product.

They want me to pay the $24 difference. NOPE. I told them to just give me a store credit that I'll probably never use and I'll buy someone else's product. They kept pushing me to warranty it out shadier the same part...
