tylergrant2011
I have a 87 mj with 4.0 and everytime I press the horn there horn doesnt work and there is a clicking noise coming from somewhere around the fuse box. Anyone know how to fix this?
Rockfrog
Check the wiring to the horn. If that's fine, replace the horn. The clicking is the horn relay doing what it is supposed to. I've had three stock horns die in the last year. Cheap enough to replace.
Keyav8r
Junkyards are full of horns, and relays if you don't want to buy new.
HOrnbrod
Make sure the horn mounting stud is clean, shiny, and tight. That's the ground connection.
gogmorgo
The factory horns are more or less behind the front bumper, and below the headlights. Some trucks came with a horn on both sides, some with only one, but no guarantees which side it's on. They're most easily accessed from below, although you may need to pull back some of the rubber splash guard. The horns look like snail shells. There's one wire attached to the horn with a spade terminal. It should be getting 12V when the horn button is pressed. Unhook it and confirm this with a test light or voltmeter. If the circuit checks out, make sure the horn's mounting bolt is clean, as Hornbrod suggests. If it's clean and the horn still doesn't work, replace the horn. You can replace it with just about any horn from just about any car. Most horns are like, five bucks at a junkyard. Luxury car horns tend to be loudest. If you find a horn with two wires instead of one, it means it won't ground through the mount, so you'll need to run a small ground wire to make it work... not a big problem. You could also pick up a cheapie universal horn at just about any parts store, but they'll cost a lot more than $5 and generally sound like crap and aren't all that loud. Minuit
Yep. Autozone special horn killed its miserable self after like 5 months. At the junkyard I grabbed the factory horns out of the newest XJ I could find. Sounds like it should now. Even if your truck only came with one horn (as mine did) the wiring exists for both. FrankTheDog
Dual horn trucks have 400hz and 500hz horns. I put two stock 400hz horns on my truck fo give it a deeper somewhat louder sound. Don't pull a horn from a YJ it has more of a beep beep sound to it.
