glundblad
It's been awhile since I posted any photos so I thought I would post one of my favorite toy. She just turned 52 in this photo. If anyone looks at the old comanche of the month photos, you may have seen my truck in there. The rake was a little overdone since I added new rear leafs plus it had an embarrassing fey bumper on it. It now has a minor lift in the front since I added OME front coils and a factory rear bumper.

HOrnbrod
C'mon man! The truck looks great too. I like how you painted the frame rail the same as the body color.
glundblad
C'mon man! The truck looks great too. I like how you painted the frame rail the same as the body color. Frame rails... For those of you that never owned a new MJ, when comanches were produced off the assy line, the frame rails were painted the same color as the body. But they subdued the body color a bit by spraying some kind of undercoating on the frame. Most of the coating on mine was gone but the frame was not sheet metal smooth. I took it to a mechanic a few years ago after it just got out of the body shop. The mechanic said he didnt like how the body shop painted over the "rust on the frame". Whatever buddy. HOrnbrod
^^ Never knew that. My rails are just black undercoating - not a trace of paint.
shelbyluvv
None of my 4 trucks had painted frames. There was some over spray but that was it. There was little to no paint under the under coating.. I personally don't like the red rails. It looks like the job was rushed. The truck is otherwise beautiful. Just those glaring red frame rails looks tacky to me. 87Warrior
Looks nice! When media blasting the undercoating off of my 92, I discovered the frame rails were in fact body color. They also had a coat of primer and that funny gray anti-corrosion stuff on top of the bare metal.
ggcnash
My 91 also has same color rails as truck from factory
Nobles41
You left off the 'Comanche' emblem on the fender or did the body shop forget to put it back on?

I have some old pics of the mj before it was panted. I took a pic of the rocker. You can get a good look at how it was from the factory from there. It makes sense that it would be body color since it was a unibody truck.
glundblad
You left off the 'Comanche' emblem on the fender or did the body shop forget to put it back on? Chiefs didnt have any "comanche" emblems other than the sticker running down the sides.
shelbyluvv
I'm sure they were painted from the factory. Mine may have been rushed or redone by a previous owner. I personally couldn't leave the rails red like that. They would have been undercoated before it left the body shop. Like I said the truck is beautiful but the red frame just doesn't suit my style. yellaheep
I'm gonna agree that I too prefer the unibody rails to be black or undercoated. Not a fan of them being body color. The red '87 Comanche Chief I have now is the same - red with red unibody rails. Kind of a worn out, taller, older brother to your MJ glundblad......... :D Oh, and it too is Comanche fender emblem delete.
