Not Another One!!?? '88 Eliminator

Recommended Posts

Ok, great news, got the "new" head bolted up and running. The throttle response is ridiculous, you hit the gas, and the RPM's are up quick!! Just have a few issues to take care of, the t-stat housing has eroded bad on the radiator hose side to the point that it's not sealing, and need to tighten the bolts more on the intake/exhaust manifold bolts to stop them from leaking. Can't wait to actually drive it!!

That's because I ported and polished the head myself. Nothing crazy, just a few flow improvements. If you used my injectors, they were EV-1 style 4.6L Mustang 4 hole units. Better atomization of fuel charge equalling better throttle response.

Yep, I used your injectors as well. Interesting, when I got the cast iron t-stat housing off of a '91 XJ, it looked to have the same orange/yellow injectors you gave me. Would I assume those were the same injectors, or does color on the injector matter?. Also, I think I know what I'll be doing with my exhaust for now. I'm following CWLONGSHOT's lead (his pics) with dumping the exhaust in front of the rear tire, like so:

This seems to be the only decent looking way of doing what I want. It'll be interesting to see how well it sounds.

Well, sad news in this Jeep household, some asshat in a Kia Soul ran a stoplight, and tagged the rearend of the Eliminator, after just getting my last two matching tires from Lee (Outlaw Star),

I'm more pissed then hurting, trying to get this thing together and looking decent, and this crap happens. Looks like I'll be looking for some parts.....again.

Probably looking at getting another bed, got a line on one, with tail lights. I'm just seeing what and if the insurance will do anything before I do anything. It's not my insurance, so we'll see. I'm so glad that I extended the fuel pump ground wire, if it was factory, it probably would have got pulled loose from the body, and I wouldn't have had a fuel pump, making a need for a tow.

Yeah, it has the cap for it, thinking of turning it into a trailer. I guess we could still do that with the old Eliminator bed, the body lines wouldn't have to be as critical on the trailer.

Well, we decided to get the '89 parts MJ that's here in Stuart. I went to look at it tonight, and the bed is just about all the good sheet metal on the truck, LOL

The tailgate, cab roof, and rear bumper all seem to be Swiss cheese because of rust. The whole drivetrain (Renix 4.0, AW4 (?) column shift auto, and D35) is there, and could be used for the '86 MJ I have. Not bad for $300.

If the tailgate were the only rust area I would have thought it was used as a pool maintenance vehicle, but since it is in many places, definitely not a Florida truck.  Glad you just need the bed.  Good find, I would offer to help but just a little too far, sorry. Good luck!

The guy apparently had saltwater kayaks and fishing gear he would throw on top and in the back.

Well, the guy used it to transport an ocean kayak, which explains the rust cab roof, tailgate, and rear bumper. The only thing that spared the bed was the shell.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, bought the '89 parts truck on Friday. Waiting on a tow dolly from a friend to get it to my house and start the tear down of both Jeeps, hopefully this weekend.
