injector question

Recommended Posts

sorry I know this has probably been said and asked over and over but I just want everybody $.02 before I buy as to which injector (with part number please) is best to order for my 89 renix 4.0, all stock except for a missing cat and closed to open cooling.

I have a rough idle and think this could help with the 4-hole spray, but would like to know from people with experience if the Volvo, neon or mustang injectors are best.

Thanks in advance

  • 1 month later...

so I did the injector swap.
truck ran like crap and wanted to stall if I didn't gas it.
misfiring with new injectors and smelled like it was dumping gas.
I did reset ecu by leaving terminals disconnected and touched together for 30 seconds
put in old injectors and smoothed back out to before...
could the injectors just be bad?
got em off ebay

said they were cleaned and spray tested before purchase and then cleaned again with some injector cleaner but did not work.
they came with new orings and everything... :fs1:

There are you tube videos that show different methods for cleaning.

I replaced the injectors on three 1991 4.0 engines (in my XJ, MJ, and CJ) with "703" Neon injectors straight from the junkyard, with no cleaning and re-using the o-rings that were on them.  Guess I got lucky on all three, zero issues.

FYI

I can confirm that the volvo injectors use the same Orings as the OEM injectors.

These orings can be found at Advanced auto parts with part number 274573 for under $5.

It comes with all 12 orings, pick up an extra set,or p/n 274571, if you want to change the oring for where the FPR attaches to the fuel tail, it is the same oring.

Make sure you didn't break or otherwise disconnect the numerous vacuum lines that must be removed to take out the Fuel rail.

I did the same thing when I changed mine, forgot to reconnect the map sensor's vac line to the TB.

I know you said it went back to normal when you swapped them back but it is possible when you swapped the volvo injectors in you forgot to connect a line and then when you swapped them back to the old ones you did not forget to connect that line.

my $.02 anyway.

GL

0 280 255 746 Volvo..

Just as cruiser said.

I got mine from a fellow member on Cherokee Forum. His username is: "Programbo"

Send him a message and he will send you 6-8 injectors (2 extra for spare) and he cleans them for you. He will charge ya around $80 for injectors and cleaning.

Get a set from Programbo on Cherokee forum.

I think its a tell tale sign to contact Programbo and be done with this whole injector upgrade situation... :ack:

Maybe you can send him the injectors and he can clean them for you for $15 because I think he has a ultrasonic cleaner which is what I also used. Those are not easily accessible but if you can't clean yours he defiantly has enough injectors to sell to you.

Those are the Volvo injectors. I'm betting something is amiss regarding the installation.
