harleys Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 First off, my name is Harley, just joined the site. Its official, today I picked up an 88 Long bed, 2wd, 4.0, manual. This is my first MJ, but I built a mild 91 XJ a couple of years back. Miss the XJ and started looking for another one and found this for a good price. Ive always loved MJ's, so I jumped at the chance to pick this one up. I currently work at a truck shop in southwest Florida, so the build should be fun. I will be wheelin it while I build it, so it will have to be in stages. As soon as I can locate them, it will get a d30, ax15, and np231. Then a small lift, and wheels and tires. Long term, it will get full widths, lockers, some sort of long arm setup, exocage, etc. Here are a couple pics of it tonight when I picked it up:
Keyav8r Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Welcome to the addiction.....er, I mean the club.
dunnc1991 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Welcome, looks like that things got a killer rattle can paint job on it. Tail lights and all...
harleys Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 The paint job is what sold me on it. ;)
harleys Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 Truck doesn't have any rust, and a pretty straight body. No idea why they rattle canned it. Was the owner before the one I got it from.
buxmj Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Welcome to another Floridian. With your knowledge of the xj I am sure you are ready for the weirdisms that come with this engine. Good luck and keep us posted. Buck.
CGCWO Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Another Florida welcome. Mine was also rattle canned by the PO, even though he tried to tell me he did it with a spray gun. lots of over spray and some places the paint was super thick others were barely a mil thick.
harleys Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 Thanks. I'm in fort myers. If you're in Florida and post in here, let me know where you're at. I can always use new friends.
harleys Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 I did champion plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter today. Got rid of the miss she had. Runs a hundred times better now.
88whitemanche Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Welcome to the craze man... I'm in miami...
harleys Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Couple pics of the xj I built to keep the thread interesting:
MuddFoot Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 more fl people... haines city here central florida
Wesleypipesyo Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 If you can find one, look for a hp30. That will be a stronger axle and allow for a little more growth in the future.
harleys Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Oh yeah, for sure. I wouldn't buy an lp30.
harleys Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Also looking for 94+ ax15 since it has the external slave.
MuddFoot Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 if you don't mind driving here call allprousedautoparts.com its in auburndale fl and they get alot of jeep stuff. i know he has alot of dana 30s from xj and zjs should be around 100 bucks if you pull it. and call them for your tranny
harleys Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Gonna make a trip to orlando pick and pull junk yards 3 weeks from now I think. If nothing turns up there, I'll give them a call. AX15 would be worth the drive, maybe not the d30. They're pretty easy to come by.
MuddFoot Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 he might have your ax15 too last time i was there he had 25+ jeeps plus his warehouse parts
harleys Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Replaced this leaky piece of junk today. I'll post pics of the new one tomorrow.
