Jeepstertracey
I have a 87 Long Bed with the 18 gallon fuel tank. I want to swap it out with a 23.5 gal tank. Can I use the 18 gal fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit? Is there anything else I need? DT

Jeep Driver
You must be rich.......I can't afford 23.5 gallons of gas......lol.
Strokermjcomanche
Just go to the gas station twice .
HOrnbrod
It should swap over okay, but it may not indicate correctly. As in below, there were four different fuel gauge sending units used in the longbeds with the difference being the depth and travel of the float arm. So how accurate it will indicate is unknown until you try it. SENDING UNIT, Fuel ***52003671, w/16 Gal. Tank - Carbureted Eng. - 7 Ft. Box - 198852003644, w/18 Gal. Tank - Carbureted Eng. - 7 Ft. reubj
I would like to know the physical dimensions of the 18 gal and the 23.5 gal tanks. Does anyone here know, or know where I can get the info? Thanks.

Thanks. Check out the shipping size on Ebay auctions. Some vendors will list a size. http://ecat.spectrapremium.com/a/000061710 Spectra says the 18 gal tank is 29 3/4 in. x 17 1/4 in. x 13 5/8 in. Their 23.5 tank is 29 3/4 in. x 17 1/4 in. x 13 5/8 in. The bigger tank needs 3 straps to hold it, the smaller tank uses 2 straps. If you have a long bed (you do) the bigger tank just slips right in - the factory did it and so can you.

Actually the 23.5 gal tank is 36-1/2" x 17-1/4" x 13-5/8 it is 6 3/4" longer which is why it uses Three straps. DT

Keyav8r
Dang! I really wanted to know how they got that additional 5.5 gallons into the same volume. Thought they might have solved that whole inter-dimensional thing and were storing the extra gas in an alternate universe. Guess I'll have to wait for the guys and gals at Ca-Tech or MIT to work the wormhole theory out.
