mopar.stevo
Quick question. I just got my first MJ and it needs some interior work. It came with a bench seat that's in pretty rough condition. I'd like to replace it with another bench seat, but that'd be pointless without a lap belt in the center. Am I correct in thinking that the Comanche bench seats don't have the lap belt in the center? This may be a stupid question, but is there a means of installing a seat belt? I've noticed that some guys in the club have installed bench seats from other makes, but I'd prefer to use Jeep stuff exclusively, if at all possible. If that's my only option, I may just opt for the buckets. Still, if there are bench seats from other makes that work better than others, I'd love to know. Dillithium
To answer one of your questions, my bench seat does have a third lap orientated seatbelt in the middle. How rough is it, can an upholsterer not tackle it?
mopar.stevo
Oh, right on. That's good news. I'm not really sure. It's not ripped up too terribly, really. It's stained pretty badly and it's pretty noisy. I'm not very tall, so I adjust the seat forward a little; when the back isn't pressed up against the back of the cab it rocks back and forth easily (which may be common with all the Comanche bench seats; I'm not sure). Do you have similar issues with your seat?
Dillithium
My bench seat is fine as far as the cover goes, there is definitely a wobble in the back but if I lean against it I have no complaints. I'm still going to swap it for bucket seats, because I miss having a center console.
mopar.stevo
If you want to sell it and are near western NC, let me know.
Oddmodman
There are two golden torx bolts which hold down the seatbelt latches to either side of the middle of the seat. If I were to add a lap belt, those bolts are what I'd put them under. Shouldn't be hard at all.
91Pioneer
My seat frame is also broken along the top bar behind the driver. For what it's worth I just added a middle lapbelt to my truck, I just added them to the same bolts used for the outside seatbelts.
onlyinajeep726
If you want to sell it and are near western NC, let me know. Looking for a bench seat in fair condition? I'm about to swap mine to buckets. May be persuaded into selling the bench. :brows:

Dillithium
I'd sell it to you Stevo, but I live in the Netherlands. It wouldn't be worth the shipping.

That's awesome, have you ever been here? It is a pretty good place to live, if you can live with the fuel prices.

Been there twice, actually. Back in '96 and again in '99, IIRC. I was too young to remember much of it though. But from what I do remember, it was really nice and people were quite friendly overall. chastings
Mine has a center belt added to the existing bolts. As others have already said, very easy and a non issue. I had mine recovered last year by a local shop. It's nothing fancy, I think it was maybe 125.
mjben
FWIW, I've owned 2 factory bench seat MJ's (an '87 and an '88) and was involved for a while with another, (a '90) and ALL 3 had the center belts. All appeared to be factory, and all were stacked using the same two bolts for the outer belts...
onlyinajeep726
My '86 had the center belt. Took it out because no adult is small enough to fit there... three people in an MJ cab.... ridiculous haha.
