1992 Jeep Comanche title : clean

Up for sale is my 2 wheel drive 1992 Jeep Comanche eliminator edition! It currently has 178k miles on the 4.0 liter straight 6 engine. It starts up the first time, every time. The transmission shifts without any issues.

I bought this truck as a second vehicle about a year ago to do some light hauling during our home renovation. I used it occasionally after that on weekends. It's been a solid reliable car but I just don't use it anymore.

The pros:
Bullet proof 4.0l engine
Simplistic Rear wheel drive design
Historic tag eligible
Fully operational bed and tailgate

The cons:
Some body rust above wheels
Heater core bypassed

This is not a perfect truck by any means, but is a fully functional truck that will get the job done.

I'm asking 1600 or best offer. Open to reasonable cash offers. No trades!

Please call Derek at
443-286-77 five two

I figured this had to be posted in the pub, since we know how many of those are out there... This is the only other one I have ever seen not in a brochure. Looks like they have all original paperwork also. Ad is a little old, but you never know... They may still have it.

Credit to bigsarge for finding it.

Hunter Green Metallic was only available as a 'Special Order' in late '92. So if you really think about it, late '92 was from Jan 1 to end date... And only 952 total were made. So out of those, how many you think were the special order color? Not many. There was another one that was special order color for Elims also... Can't remember if it was blue or purple though.

Oh, and Longbed Eliminators... We have only ever come across one here on the group.

As with most things Chrysler... When the MJ was headed out the door, you could get whatever-the-hell-you-damn-well-please.

Why do you say that?

Was said in response to the last of the MJ's being able to be ordered/equipped with whatever the hell you damn well please remark.............. the D44 and power window/locks options weren't available after '91 into '92.

Please don't spread misinformation. The D44 was still available after '90, and I am almost positive that so were P/W / P/L's... A quick check of my '92 Jeep dealer podium shows the D44 / Metric Ton package. We've seen H.O. models with and D44's. Even shortbed D44's with the offroad package or just because. I couldn't dig deep enough to find the P/W / P/L's, but I am almost positive. Might have been a goofy dealer add-on, or something they didn't promote because of cost, but may have been available on an order sheet.

I'm not spreading misinformation........ your post confirms what I was saying.  There doesn't seem to be any defined option package groups that included the D44 (other than Metric Ton) or the PDL or PW's.  Maybe it was possible those options existed as special order and found their way to a few or many trucks...... but where are these trucks?

Not to argue with ya Rob, but I haven't seen any posts here on CC where someone has a verified factory installed D44 on a production '91 or '92 with the exception of the Metric Ton option.  I guess I was more referring to those items (D44 and PDL, PW) as being part of any option group after '90.

Neither of the two '91 Eliminators I've owned has had a D44, nor has any I've found for sale or owned locally.

I have owned a '92 Metric Ton that had the D44 under it (super rough beat up truck with no title..... hated to part that one out and scrap it.....)

None of the numerous '91-92 MJ's I've owned, bought/sold or scrapped have had PDL or PW, nor has any I've gone to look at that have been on Craigslist or owned by NAXJA friends.

All of the '88-'90 Eliminators I've owned have had D44's.  I have yet to see any '87-'90 Eliminators with PDL or PW's.

Additionally, when I've tried to order replacement brake cables or D44 brake parts, I've never been able to get them when referencing a '91 or '92 (or later XJ for that matter), always had to be sure to say it was for an '87-'90.  In my case, I have been building a D44 for my '91 Eliminator.  I went in to get numerous parts and initially told them I was needing parts for a '91.  When we got to the brake parts..... no listing for D44 brake parts on '91 and newer.

Again, I'm just going off of what I've looked into personally, and have seen / not seen.

I thought I'd finally found one recently...... a '91 with a D44.  Turned out that the previous owner had both the '91 and an '88 Metric Ton.  The D44's bearings gave out in the '88 and he put the D44 under the '91, swapping the D35 to the '88 so he could keep it going.  (the '91 was wrecked and engine sold off).  So, again...... I've not come across this combo factory installed.

I'd LOVE to be proven wrong...... PLEASE, someone show me a '91-'92 Eliminator with a Factory D44 .......and/or...... Factory PDL / PW's in ANY '91-'92 MJ.

I built and sold a lwb 91 pioneer mt with d44, base model interior without even tilt.

The trim package has NOTHING to do with what is going to be on the vehicle mechanically.

Prove to me that you couldn't order a 44 on a 92-92 elim, and we can talk. But as Rob just proved in huge post above, it was an option on the build sheet.

You are arguing about a box missing a check mark on a piece of paper. Chrysler didn't have good enough control of jeep within 3 years of ownership to stop the custom orders coming in.

I would add, my 87. Came to me as factory swb metric ton d44 2x4 without a class 3 hitch. It was all original to the truck, which had no power, no ac, bench, was shift on the column with the 3/4 cluster.

Yet more proof of custom orders.

LOL....... Whoa, settle down there JeepcoMJ...... it's all good!

I'm not arguing that things couldn't be ordered.  Never even suggested that.

And I've clearly agreed that the MT package did include a D44 for '91-'92.

I'm saying that there doesn't appear to have been an option/trim package that included any of those options we've been discussing.

Again:

'91-'92 Eliminators = no D44 as part of the package group.

'91-92 option groups = none included PDL / PW's

........ as far as I've been able to discover.  ;)

Was said in response to the last of the MJ's being able to be ordered/equipped with whatever the hell you damn well please remark.............. the D44 and power window/locks options weren't available after '91 into '92.

So here you said they weren't available at all.

I'm not spreading misinformation........ your post confirms what I was saying.

That they never existed? Because in this post you verify that they did, but not as an option in anything but the Metric Ton:

I have owned a '92 Metric Ton that had the D44 under it (super rough beat up truck with no title..... hated to part that one out and scrap it.....)

No option included the D44 other than the Metric Ton (AMC 20 in '86), but it was an ala carte with any sub trim. I should makre mention that I could be wrong regaring the early 'Off-road paqckage' as that may have had an HD rear axle in the paqckage - But not sure enough to say with certainty.

All of the '88-'90 Eliminators I've owned have had D44's.  I have yet to see any '87-'90 Eliminators with PDL or PW's.

I think this is the exception, rather than the rule. It was still only an option.

I just checked a few sites, and the D44 was an option on a '92 MJ when referencing rear drivetrain components or brake parts.

I'm not arguing that things couldn't be ordered. Never even suggested that.

In later posts, bu initially you made it sound as such.

I'm saying that there doesn't appear to have been an option/trim package that included any of those options we've been discussing.

Again:

'91-'92 Eliminators = no D44 as part of the package group.

........ as far as I've been able to discover.  ;)

I think now we are on the same page.

D44 - Never standard on anything other than the Metric Ton. Maybe Offroad group...

PW/PDL - Only standard on XLS and Laredo trim levels.

But all were available with a check of a box in any year. They were never an exclusion, as your inital response stated that started the debate.

After rereading my post to make sure all my info is correct, I think I know where you were heading, but why the confusion started. If you would have had in the part I added in red, I think we may be having a different discussion.

Why do you say that?

Rob

Was said in response to the last of the MJ's being able to be ordered/equipped with whatever the hell you damn well please remark.............. the D44 and power window/locks options weren't available after '91 into '92 as standard on Eliminators.

But it was never a standard to begin with. Which is why I think there was additional confusion. So I and Pat, (most likely) thought you were making a blanket statement about all HO era MJ's.

:dunno:  :fs1:  :hmm:  :???:  :ack:  :shake:  :thwak:     :dunce:  :smart:  :fool:  :wall:

I give up.  The only thing that seems to be consistent within this thread is that an options "package" in any form, be it Eliminator, Pioneer, Sport Truck, Comanche Chief, Metric Ton, etc.... were simply all..... Inconsistent.

There was no defined Eliminator package, just a truck with decals.

There was no defined Pioneer package, just a truck with decals.

There was no defined Sport Truck package, just a truck with decals.

There was no defined Comanche Chief package, just a truck with decals

......... all potentially optioned with "whatever-the-hell-you-damn-well-please"

You know someone's gonna post up their factory badged Metric Ton MJ came with a D35 and standard leaf packs........

The point I was trying to make is that every one of our trucks had a window sticker and on that sticker, there was an options list which included a "package" and a list of items that were part of that package.

I have yet to see a "package" that included a D44 after '90 other than the Metric Ton.

I have yet to see a "package" that included PDL's or PW's in any truck, but more specifically, after '90.

I guess I'll peruse Google Images and see what sort of photo'd or scanned MJ window stickers I can find and look over "packages" listed under the options column.  See if anything sheds any light.

(Please, no hurt butts........ my questions and curiosity truly were and remain well intentioned.  At this point, I believe my give-a-crap just broke.   :P  )

My 1991 Comanche came from the factory with a Dana 44 as part of the "Big Ton" package.  Have the original window sticker for the truck, so I know it came that way from the factory.  FYI, "Big Ton" package = "Metric Ton" package.  My truck did not come from the factory with p/w and locks.  But it has them now.

Yellaheep... No worries with me, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows the history.

For the most part, you are correct. Most of all this crap was just an appearance group. Certain things come into play with Eliminators, like has to be a 4.0L, gauge group, and at least to the factories manuals, bucket seats. I think XLS and Laredo were the ones that came with the most "Standard" options, but everything else was up in the air.

I just don't want someone who doesn't know quite what we are talking about to read into it wrong and assume D44's or PW PDL never existed in '91+. Same thing I have to do when someone says 4WD Eliminators never existed.. Or when someone says there was a longbed chief, or '87 XLS, or whatever.
